My son and I thought that Stony Brook had a rolling admissions policy, and he therefore did not check off Early Admission on his application supplement which he filed in mid-November. He has now found that Stony Brook has Early Admission but possibly not Rolling Admissions. II suspect it's too late now to request Early Admission, but I was wondering if there's any way he will get an earlier answer. His stats are 3.8 GPA, 2130 SAT, 1460 SAT Parts I/II, and he has applied to the Honors Program. He is out-of-state.

Your son should have checked off Early Action.

Otherwise, SB will look at his application at a later date. :(

Regular decision notifications will start going out around February 15. The first round of EAs went out already; we'll do a few more rounds over the coming weeks.

Honors Program decisions come out in March. Good luck!

Chris

Hey, Chris, Happy New Year!

Will those notifications over the next week or so include First Priority applicants? Do they count as EA?

Thanks for any response. I thought we'd hear by Jan. 1...

Yes, it will.

My page just changed to this:
Thank you for your application to Stony Brook University.

Freshman Early Action applicants will be notified of admission to the University in January
Does that mean I was denied, or are they simply changing the "shortly" message to reflect that they are unable to keep up with the number of applications?

The page used to say:
Your application has been received and will be reviewed shortly.
Mine changed to like "Your application has been reviewed. The board (or something like that) will be making a decision shortly" before I was accepted. But I also got the New Student tabs

Is there anybody that applied EA, and has not gotten a decision yet? I hope I'm not the only one.

markopolo: my status says that too! when did you apply?

nds a bunch of kids from my school have not gotten a decision yet. and a few did EA.

I sent mine in around end of sept so i think i was one of the earlier ones

I think it is rather funny that they sent out those "VIP Applications" which said you'd get a decision in 2 WEEKS!

And guess what, they can't even make the original deadline.

We had an enormous number of early applicants -- more than we anticipated -- which meant we weren't able to get everyone completed before January 1. All EA folks will get some notification this week.

It's possible that some of you might be deferred to regular decision -- that's okay; it just might be because we didn't get all the pieces of your application together yet, as we're pretty backed up on mail. It's not going to hurt your admission at all, it's just a timing issue.

Chris

If a New Students tab was added to the Solar page,
does that mean that I have already been accepted?
Or does that appear whenever the comittee is beginning to look over
your application?

You’re in!

Oh, then how much longer would I have to wait for the official letter?
On the solar page, it says that the comittee will make a decision shortly but
I havn’t gotten any notification what so ever.
I’m getting really anxious about this =[

I think the letter came a week or maybe even two weeks after the solar page changed. It took a while for the official “status” to change as well. But if you have the new student tabs, you’re in, believe it! Congrats!

I just cannot login SOLAR system, I don’t know why?
