It would be very difficult to find 10 schools that are reasonably known that give the same good-sized awards to transfers that they give to frosh. I think it would be hard to find 5 reasonabley known schools that give the same good-sized awards. I’m not talking about phony-merit where a private has over-priced the school and then gives everybody an award for breathing.

That is pretty good aid, from a private school that brings the coast of attendance down to the cost of an i state public school.

My son received substantial merit aid from a private university WELL below our FAFSA EFC. However, we do own real estate other than our primary residence.
Yes, it really depends on what the EFC is as to whether there can be enough merit aid to cut into the EFC. If the CIA is $50k and the EFC is $30k, any merit over $20k is going to cut into the EFC. If there are any other scholarships or grants, the EFC could be significantly reduced.
