As my username implies, I worry far too often. At the moment, my worries are just about all regarding my oldest daughter and a friend of mine recommended this site to me so I could get the opinions of other, more experienced parents (this is my first of five children heading to college for me). I would like to at least get a glimpse of what I am to expect from the schools she applied to. She took the SAT twice, the first time with a 1310 (650 Reading, 660 Math) and the second with a 1340 (690 Reading, 650 Math). She has a 3.57 UC GPA and took 4 AP classes (took 3 tests and passed 2) in 11th grade and is taking 4 this year and 1 college class through her high school this year. She does NHS (11/12), track (4 years), orchestra (9/10), church volunteer (6 years), and she joined Key Club this year.
She applied as Undeclared to:
-UC Santa Cruz
-UC Riverside
-UC Irvine
-San Diego State
-CSU Long Beach
-Cal Poly Pomona
-CSU San Marcos
What about GPA? I assume you’re in-state for these so have you guys looked at the eligibility indexes for the CSUs?
https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/elig_index_calculator.asp
@philbegas Yes we’re California residents. UC/CSU GPA is 3.57 and her eligibility index would be 4196 (w/1340 SAT) and 4206 (superscored). What could be deemed a good eligibility index?
@Gumbymom knows everything you could possibly know about EIs so I will defer to her for the analysis.
Her EI makes her competitive for all the Cal States. UCR is a Match. UCSC could go either way (50/50) and UCI will be Reach mainly due to her GPA since her test scores are well within range.
Freshman admits for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%
Riverside and Merced will probably take her, the rest of the UCs, probably not. I think she won’t have any trouble with the CSUs on your list.
Good luck
Are all of those affordable for you - have you run the NPC 's?
It doesn’t look like you’re looking for private universities, but if you run the NPC 's and find that these are affordable, she has a shot at
St Mary’s of California, URedlands, Willamette, Lewis and Clark, UPortland, UPuget Sound, USeattle.
