Interested in my daughters chances at the schools she is applying to. I want to encourage her but not be unrealistic with her. I think she is on track but would appreciate other opinions.

Extracurriculars:

She has studied ballet for 12 years and been a member of the nonprofit ballet company for four years dancing with other adults, college students and some high school students. Selected into the Atlanta Ballet Summer Intensive, the North Carolina Dance Theatre Summer Intensive, and the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive during different summers. Selected as one of 15 dancers across the state to attend Georgia's Governors Honors 6 week Summer Experience. Has had many lead roles in ballets here, some dancing with partners, all dancing to a live orchestra during the performances. She dances and rehearses 18 hours a week all year.

Has sung in the high school choir (170 students) for 4 years, tried out for and made it into Georgia State Choir her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Is in the audition-only 20 member Ensemble that dances and sings. Rehearses about 2 hours a week after school while school is in session (not summers).

She has to complete a 100 hour senior project which involves learning to oil paint by working with a mentor professional painter. She will be completing 8 paintings this year and participating in an art show.

She is active in our Church youth group.

Community Work:
She started tutoring a girl with Down syndrome in a beginning ballet class in 2007 which improved the girl's balance and agility. She got her best friend to mentor a second girl with Down syndrome in 2008 and convinced the Board of Directors for the ballet to offer the girls' classes free of charge. One of the girls my daughter is mentoring performed in the 2009 Spring ballet which was a big deal in this city. Her work with these girls was profiled in a local women's magazine. She now has four girls with Down syndrome dancing, each with a mentor. The economic downturn resulted in the ballet no longer offering the classes free of charge. My daughter spent all summer 2009 fundraising $2300 to pay for the girls' tuition for this year and next year. She is currently working on grants to apply for aid for the program from local and statewide foundations.

She doesn't have any leadership positions unfortunately because the programs she spends the most time with (ballet and choir) don't have leadership positions. I hope that doesn't hurt her chances out of state. Any comments would be appreciated.
