D was placed in Davenport. Are all D'port freshmen placed in Welch Hall? Anyone know anything about the princess suites? How many are there? What they are like, etc. Seeking any info on D'port and Welch. Thanks.

I stayed in Welch for BDD and the regular suites (I don't know anything about the princess ones) are really nice and spacious. I think there were six girls in that particular suite (two doubles and two singles).

I'm so jealous of the kids who get to stay there! I'm in L-Dub freshman year, which is the worst housing :(

The fourth floor princess suites are to die for. Sky lights and enormous common rooms.

Also, D'port is the best college <grin>.</grin>

did you receive your notice by email or did you log on to students web site?

D was in a Welch princess suite her first year. Yes, they're large! Hers was two story - 5th floor, 9 girls altogether, 2 bathrooms and a large common room. I think they were all doubles with the exception of one small single in the suite. My D's room was quite big (one other roomate) with a window overlooking the park on the Phelps gate side, and two closets.
She remains very close to 6 of the 8 girls who shared that first suite, and roomed with some combination of them the following four years.
Davenport is a great college. Lots of spirit. (But then all the colleges say that.) The Master and Dean are wonderful.

And yes, all D'port freshmen are in Welch - and it alternates male, female, by floor.

thanks for the info. D has heard D'port is very spirited, which suits her fine! Now I know she'll be wishing for one of the princess suites.

Not all rooms in the p suites are large - some are pretty tiny. You really won't know what you have until you arrive.
Every year is different, too. Since the room draw is by lottery, it varies from year to year. If her room is small this year, chances are it will be larger next year. (soph year D had a small room) She'll love D'port, though!

Welch is some of the better freshman housing, and Dport, while not quite as heavenly as Jonathan Edwards (which will be much missed this year as it's even further improved), is one of the nicest colleges on campus--pretty, nice housing for four years, etc.

workinprogress,
Some people were able to access their housing info via email, but according to the school's website that was a mistake (and may not reflect actual placement). The "official" announcements will be mailed out the 29th of this month.

Does anyone know what the suite numbers would be for the Welch Princess Suites? Thanks!

can anyone please tell me about Branford and Vanderbilt. thanks

Princess suites are W A41 W A42 W B41 W B42 W C41 W C42. Entryway A is the entryway closest to Phelps Gate. All are on the fourth floor.

Hey,

I'll be a junior in Dport next year. Feshman housing is phenominal. You may not have a princess suite. If you're on the fourth floor, you'll have a princess suite, but the second floor also houses women. The first and thrid house men.

TO BRING: Floor lamps: there is no overhead lighting in any of the bedrooms. The closets are small, so bring small shelving units that can go under your bed. The bathrooms are in-suite, so bring cleaning supplies, soap, etc. There are places to get TP on Old Campus ("the OC"). You'll want to get a carpet, because the hardwood floors make it really loud.

If you want any more info, feel free to ask or message.

Thanks for the info, njdad - looks like we have a "princess" in our house!

njdad - do you know anything about the first floor suites for the guys? They seem to have a lot more students - one with 10 and one with 12

Hey there, I was placed in the 12-pack this year. From what I've heard, its first floor status and concentration of people (no other freshman suite has as many people in it) make it, along with the 10-pack, sort of a social hub in Welch. The 12-pack has a huge common room with 2 singles and 5 doubles. The 10 pack and 12 pack have sort of a pranking battle going. All in all, it sounds like a really great place to be and I'm pretty excited for next fall.
