@assemblingphilosophies they came out mid March last year. I forget the date but you can look at last year’s 2022 RD thread for the date.
Yes, you can check last year’s thread. I think it was about March 23 or so.
Hi everyone. I need to ask for some advice. My daughter is REALLY interested in Davidson. We made one campus visit in the spring of 2018 but will not be able to visit the campus again due to her siblings’ sports activities. So I have looked online and I can see that the Davidson regional representative will be in Jacksonville, FL on Feb 21 and then Orlando on Feb 23rd. So at some point, the regional representative will be driving really close to the city we live in. My question is this: is it okay for my daughter to email him and ask to meet for coffee at place close to the interstate as he drives by? Will a representative do this? Is it rude to ask? I have no idea what is acceptable in this situation…
My daughter reached out to LAC reps last year to set up interviews and, for example, drove to nearby city b/c the rep was going to a school there but not her (smallish) high school. They met for coffee b4 the rep went to the other HS. So generally I think this is okay b/c LACs love to know students who are really interested and go the extra mile (literally in this case, lol!)
BUT, the big caveat here is that unlike most LACs, Davidson doesn’t do interviews so I’m not sure this would be appropriate – coffee one on one with a prospective student seems pretty much like an interview. That said, if the email is worded well, there may be an upside if she asks b/c it demonstrates her strong interest. But my guess is they’ll say no?
I suggest posting this on the general college admissions thread b/c you might get more responses there and other points of view.
Almostthere2018–so, I talked to my daughter. She doesn’t want to reach out to the Davidson representative again. She states she doesn’t have any specific questions and she doesn’t want to be “that annoying kid “who reaches out just to stay on somebody’s radar. She feels it’s disrespectful of his time and I have to admit that she has a point. So now we wait.
Yes, I get that. And if it helps, my D who went through the process last year did some things to demonstrate interest at Davidson (she visited and she got the Belk nomination from her school), but didn’t attend overnights that she got emails about (I don’t think they were special invites or anything) that were Spring of junior or Fall of senior year, if I recall correctly. And we don’t even live too far away like most applicants. I think she even got a email from a prof that she didn’t respond to – but can’t remember if that was b4 or after acceptance.
She got in and it was accepted student visit that sealed the deal!
Point being I think demonstrated interest may be more of a yes/no and not a continuum, so I think your D is fine since she visited. The folks at Middlebury told us exactly that during the info session – “We look at demonstrated interest.
You’re here visiting so you have done that. You don’t have to try to get here again or do anything else…”
I guess some colleges are more complex and track opening emails, etc, and I don’t know if Davidson does that or not. She should make sure to open them all and click through on a few links to the college website just in case. Can’t hurt!
Good luck!!
I have read into Davidson admissions a lot and I feel as if they are unpredictable. I have a 31 ACT, 1400 SAT, 4.0 UWGPA, and 4.5 WGPA from 10 APs. I played three seasons of volleyball, performed in 10 plays, attended NC Governor’s School, am the president of my schools student government, and the president of our international thespian society chapter. One of my recommendations was written by a Davidson alum and my cousin, a recent graduate, wrote me another recommendation. My why Davidson was edited by a current Davidson student and in it I included the fact that I have come to campus to spend the night which I hope will demonstrate interest. I have met with a professor and tried to let admissions know this without seeming brown nosey. I have tried my best but I still fear I will be rejected. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.
@Nervousprospy I think you’re app will look terrific! How did you do on your APs? If you did well then it will price that your 4.0 isn’t inflated.
I have all As and my exam scores are 3s and 4s
@Nervousprospy did you report the 3s and 4s? If you received As, schools would like to see 5s on those tests. If you received an A and got a 3, that shows you didn’t master the material and your school’s grading scale is inflated.
I did not report the scores because they did not ask for them
@Nervousprospy you can self report AP scores on the common app. It looks good to report them if you have strong scores and those kids with 5s (and 4s) will most likely report them.
Should I report them if I have three 3s and three 4s?
@Nervousprospy no. It’s too late anyway.
Do you think them being absent from my application will hurt my chances.
@Nervousprospy no one will ever know what goes into each decision. I think you made a good decision (unknowingly) by not reporting your AP scores though. We will all know decisions soon enough!
Thanks you so much for your help!
Hey guys
I am an international student applying RD for davidson
my problem is that
I took the SAT twice. the first time I got 1400 and in the second time I got 1440. I submitted my 1400 score and wrote it in the common app and didn’t mention the 1400 score. I was inept I know because I listened to someone who told me to do that. now I want to send my 1440 score. will they accept it from me and consider it in making my decision? or they already put the decision. and what should I tell them?
@Escapism1973 Definitely try to submit it if you can
Hi everyone, and I’m super excited to see lots of people interested in Davidson, as I’m already committed to the class of 2023! As you guys wait anxiously, I wanted to let you guys know that as competitive as Davidson is, don’t write it off because of your stats or the price. Here are my stats that I got in with:
GPA: 3.81w/3.46uw
ACT: 29
7 APs including senior year (Only taken 1 exam and got a 4, planning to take 2 more this year)
Co-Captain of Mock Trial Team
Tournament Captain of Debate Team
2016 National History Day Finalist
Chapter Board Officer in my local youth group
Volunteer teacher assistant every Sunday
Soup kitchen volunteer every Thursday
3 Honors Societies (National, Social Studies, Business)
Lobbied for Holocaust education in CT at state capitol
Political Campaign Volunteer
4 seasons of varsity golf
3 letters of rec (Social studies and english teacher, and manager from my job)
Strong Why Davidson essay, I think
So as clearly noticeable, my GPA and test scores are pretty low for Davidson standards, and my extracurriculars are pretty good, but nothing spectacular for a school of this caliber. So how did I get into Davidson you may ask? Here are some reasons:
- I went ED2, which certainly helps but nonetheless I was still under qualified
- I am Jewish, and Davidson could use some more Jews (4%) and the school is still technically Presbyterian
- I've been in good contact with my regional counselor, and reached out to some advisors of majors I'm interested in
So with this being said, if you’re worried your stats don’t cut it, that’s the last thing to worry about. If you let Davidson know that you are their number 1, they’ll see that and factor it in the your app a lot. Demonstrated interest is big with lots of schools like these, and I think that’s what got me in. And if you don’t get in, just know it truly is nothing against you, because any school with a sub 20% acceptance rate is going to deny some people who are more than qualified to get accepted.
Also if you’re worried about price or the financial aid package comes in a little short of what you hoped, talk to the financial aid office. I got them to give me a little more aid to get the price to where I needed it to be.
Good luck to all of you as the decision hopefully comes back soon!
