@singingbear pretty sure no. I asked again about merit over the phone. Cited $22k at Grinnell, $25k at Kenyon, Monroe Scholar at W&M, and faculty scholar at Bowdoin and they just said all of their merit scholarships have been decided already. And they only give three kids a NMF scholarship of $1000. I thought that was odd. All of S19’s schools that give a NMF scholarship do so for every NMF who matriculates.
Thanks a lot @homerdog !! Congrats on your S’s achievement and good luck with the rest of applications! So far I like USC the most because it is not far, but usually their FA is not so generous … looking forward to getting it within a few days. We are very close … we are @AlmostThere2018 … 2019 !!
Have any accepted kids received financial aid information?
Curious as to whether Davidson might offer grant aid to kids who (via FAFSA and CSS) show no financial need and did not receive merit scholarships. Also wonder if would be worth appealing, if not.
@505Mom there are no merit scholarships except the named ones. I called. So, if you haven’t received any merit scholarships, there are not any coming. We received Davidson’s big envelope and didn’t get a package. We didn’t file CSS because we won’t get any need based aid. I think I posted above that they would not negotiate and only even give three kids a small scholarship for NMF.
@homerdog thanks for doing the leg work.
hi guys - does anyone know if parents also attend decision davidson/is it weird if my parents come? i don’t know anyone who currently attends davidson so if i went alone i would have to stay overnight with i guess a student volunteer? just wanted to get a sense of what other admitted students were doing.
@pupper76 Yes, most students have one or more parents with them and the event is specifically designed with parents in mind. They even have different talks and activities for the parents to attend while the students go to student-only mock classes and such during some of the time. So it wouldn’t be awkward at all. There will be hundreds of parents around.

wow, this is actually such a weak application guys haha. I’m gonna try to send them updates on things i do, so suggestions?
@highkeystressed3 I don’t think it’s possible to chance someone on the waitlists for a few reasons. 1) There is no consistency to how many applicants get off waitlists from year-to-year. A school could offer 50 people off the list one year and 0 the next. 2) Overall, the odds are typically longer than getting admission in the first place, statistically speaking. 3) Even schools that are need blind during regular admissions often aren’t for the waitlist. 4) Schools are trying to fill-in gaps based on who accepted and who didn’t and there’s no predicting what those gaps will be in advance even if we had visibility to the process which we don’t. They don’t have a secret list where you are a fixed # on the list. If you a woman and they end up mostly with a a low imbalance of guys, they may only offer offer waitlist slots to the latter. Etc.
It’s best to get very happy with one of your acceptances, move on mentally and then have it be a great surprise if a waitlist works out.
Accepted with music scholarship!
Curious why Davidson hasn’t published their class of 2023 admission statistics like most of their peers. Anyone know if they announced any stats during the Decision Davidson event?
Last year I think they announced it after the class was filled – so basically in May.
@AlmostThere2018 Last year it was out in March shortly after they sent acceptances. This year is an outlier where they never published their admission stats. Looks like they plan to keep it to themselves until the Common Data Set is out. Which is odd.
Interesting. I saw elsewhere on CC that some colleges are keeping a lower profile on admissions b/c of the admission cheating scandal.
My daughter was waitlisted w 1520 SAT and 35 ACT and numerous ECs. I agree they may want to keep a lower profile on admissions. People like me are miffed why they publish stats and then so many get waitlisted. Same happed with WLU. Oh well, in the end she’s now fine with where she is going, but it is frustrating when you do everything right and still get left out.
I’m sure they will eventually publish the stats in their next common data set. Why would they want to keep a “lower profile” on their admissions stats?
