Davidson Fellows

Is anybody on here a DF?

If you are, why may I ask are you applying to Harvard?

You're far too good for it.

Hahahahaa.

Those kids are CRAZY.

one of those kids was 9

<a href="http://www.ditd.org/public/article.aspx?cid=140&mid=278&tp=2%5B/url%5D">http://www.ditd.org/public/article.aspx?cid=140&mid=278&tp=2</a></p>

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I noticed something. Some of the titles of those projects sound remarkably pompous. They're probably smarter than this, but I wonder if the judges just look and see nothing but six-syllable words and say "it must be good"

What I'm saying is maybe they put a lot of work in at something, but don't really have any revolutionary ideas.

"A 16-year-old young woman from St. Paul, Minnesota, Nicole Ali worked to develop a process to grow blood-forming stem cells outside the body. Nicole worked with cells from umbilical cord blood, instead of embryonic stem cells. By helping to curb the controversy associated with stem-cell research, Nicole’s work with ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic cells could open the doors to more rigorous medical study that could help treat blood disorders, such as leukemia. Nicole also developed statistical software for more efficient analysis of data related to her research."
These people are much better than I , I admit, but some of this sounds like what any underling intern does in one of America's top labs.

Mr. Matthew Goldstein, 17
Delmar, NY
Category: Technology
Project Title: DoorManBot: Instant Message Relaying for Offline Users
Award: $25,000

THIS GUY MADE AN AIM BOT!!! Ok I'll admit, I'm sure he's very bright and put a lot of work into it and all...but still...its an AIM bot, not exactly an outstanding contribution to the world's knowledge.
Honestly though, anyone that can complete the Davidson Fellow application deserves something. You have to send in a 10 minute video of yourself, bunches of essays, a CD with something on it, and I'm sure a lot more...
Also, to apply you can't be over 18 by a certain date, which is really ridiculous because it allows only about 1/5 of high school seniors to apply. This is of course unfair because those 1/5 had an entire extra summer to work as compared to the juniors…

Oh well, its still an outstanding achievement for all those Davidson scholars!
