<p>I think you are all looking at the “waitlist” in completely the wrong way. If you read more about this waitlist you will see that the UC campuses are doing it for one reason and one reason only; to accept MORE people.</p>
<p>Every year UC’s send out a certain number of acceptace letters and hope that enough people sign their SIRs to fill all of the open spots for each major. However, what normally ends up happening at the UC’s (other than UCB and UCLA) is that not enough students sign their SIRs and there are a few spots in a few majors that are left unoccupied.</p>
<p>The wait list is disigned to give some applicant a “second chance” of sorts. This means that if your major still has a few spots after all the SIRs are collected then those on the waitlist will be offered official acceptance letters.</p>
<p>You guys should be happy about this - especially those of you who are borderline and do not have TAG. The UC campuses are simply trying to maximize the number of students in which they can accept this year.</p>
