Day on the Lawn?

Hello, I've read a few other threads on DOTL but none of them have answered a few questions that pertain to my situation.

UVa has offered to fly me up to the grounds for free (from the 17th to 19th); however, the actual program does not occur until the 18th. So here are my questions:

1) Where exactly will I be sleeping on the day before the program (April 17th)? And what activities are planned for students arriving by flight before the actual event?

2) The program ends around 2:15 on the 18th. This makes me wonder why I'll be leaving on the 19th instead of the 18th? I'm aware that some students choose to spend the night in the dorms, but what will we be doing from 2:15-April 19th?

Here's the PDF that outlines the scheduling for the event:

Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like you are a scholarship student. Just email the person who wrote to you about the trip! There are overnight hosts (students) and activities planned. The person who emailed you is probably in the Outreach office (Dean Gregory, Dominique Baker, Jason Puryear, or maybe Rima Masters). They’re happy to talk about what’s being planned!

Awesome, I just emailed her!

Thank you Dean J!

Please read if you weren’t able to sign up for DOTL!

Hello Dean J,

Luckily, I signed up for DOTL before they ran out of space.

Below is the email that UVa sent me back in response to my questions. I’m posting it in the event that anybody else has the same question now or in the future:

"1)You would stay in a dorm with a student on April 17th and 18th.

2) No, there are no events on the 19th, so if you would like to travel back home on the 18th and it’s affordable for us, that will be fine. You’ll be free to leave town after 5pm on April 18th if you’d like to do that."

Thanks for all the help Dean J and CC :)

I believe you are one of a few students who couldn’t come on the dates that were originally proposed? There are events planned for students who are getting funding, but I believe almost all are coming this weekend.

Are you in touch with Outreach or a student? There are lots of people involved with DOTL at UVa. :)

Haha actually I am one of the few students who couldn’t make it this upcoming weekend! Had I known events would have been available for me on this weekend, I would not have asked for another day.

I chose to go on the 18th because I already paid money to visit another college and I didn’t want the money to go to waste. Bleh! :/

And I believe I’m contacting a student. I’m emailed Ms. Hessing if you know her! She has helped tremendously! I also spoke with their travel agent so the trip is now official. :)
