daylight savings time

i live in northeast (nyc area) and the fall "darkenss has set in. i feel like it is dark in the am and gets darker at night....even though weather more mild than usual...now i know this is a crazy sounding question since FL is also in EST zone but is the same thing happening in florida right now? I saw a live remote the other morining at 7 am and it seemed brighter in orlando than it was in nyc..but then again maybe i am just imagining it?????????????????

South Florida is about a 1/2 hour behind NY in daylight/dusk. I know this because I speak to my family (in the tristate area) in the early hours. I woke up this morning in the dark at 6:30 am but the sun was up at 7 am when I walked the dogs.

good news a) i’m not crazy and b) i like bright

I grew up in central Florida near Tampa and first moved to Connecticut in 1991. I was stunned by the mild summer only to be FLOORED by the frigid winter… I quickly learned to drive in snow, but never in 7 years there managed to get over how EARLY the sun sets during the winter.

I couldn’t believe it got pitch black before 4pm. YIKES! Where did the day go? I’m a late riser so this is a serious thing for me.

Same thing happened when we were recently stationed outside of Seattle so it must be a northern thing.

I can tell you that it doesn’t really start to get dark here til late. Sun rises fully around 7:30. I’m always happy to see it peeking over rooftops around 7:15 when I’m taking my son to school.

Here is a link that tells you when it rises and sets in central Florida. You could probably do a google for Tallahassee.

Here is a link to a site that will tickle you pink if you like sunsets.

http://search.tampabays10.com/sp?p=/photogallery/index&keywords=sunset&photo=1&name=sunset&skin=0

The time at which the sun rises and sets depends on longitude, not latitude. Early sunsets are not a northern thing! This is basic science people. If one lives on the eastern side of a particular time zone, the sun will set earlier than it does for someone who lives on the western edge of the same time zone.

I live in a suburb of Cincinnati, which is considerably farther north than Tallahassee. However, sunrise and sunset are at just about the same time in both locations. Cincinnati and Tallahassee are both near the western edge of the Eastern Time Zone.

thanks for replies- it is so interesting to me and hoping very much i am admitted into FSu i will enjoy the extra sunlight!!
