Hey guys, hope I posted this in the right section, so I need some opinions on Dayton university. I'm goig into my senior year of highschool and I just got a letter from Dayton Jon the mail that says I'm eligible for a scholarship and if I go on a campus tour I'll get free textbooks worth $4000 over 4 years.

So I was like well that sounds good so I started looking up the school and it has majors I want, but it's a catholic school and I'm not religious at all, an it's kinda small only 8,000 people. Which could be good because classes are apparently like 40 at the max an I learn better in smaller classes and with 1 on 1 teaching.

Do I just want some opinions from you guys of I should look into it more.

I know several students at the University of Dayton…some Catholic, some not…they all love it. It’s very spirited for a small school. Very easy to get to from out of town. There is an airport in Dayton, and it is also about only an hour from both Columbus and Cincinnati airports. They are also known for being generous with both merit scholarships and financial aid. I have not previously heard of this book deal…but every penny of your own money that you do not have to spend is a good thing!

I also got that same letter! I checked out the website and it looks like a nice school, I also noticed that the application fee is waived if you apply online, so I’m planning on applying and hoping that will be another option for me. I am also not Catholic (but I attend a Catholic high school and am looking at a lot of Catholic colleges, specifically Jesuit), but I have read that there are many students who aren’t also and I’m sure it’s not something forced on you.

Ok well I’m gonna look into it more and maybe apply.

If you’re going to apply, please don’t write “Dayton University” anywhere on your application.

I’m a current UD student and I love it here. There are a lot of Catholic students, but there are also a lot of students who aren’t religious at all. You will have to take probably at least two religion courses, but they are religion courses- not theology. No one is going to tell you you’re wrong for not believing whatever.

UD has a party school rep, and yes, it’s well deserved. What everyone seems to gloss over is the quality of the education that you will receive. If you want to have fun, but at the same time work hard and learn a lot, UD is a pretty good place to do it.

UD is becoming much more competitive admissions-wise, so look for very recent stats. In just this past year they also cut the acceptance rate from in the 70’s to around 50%. It wouldn’t surprise me if they dropped it again this year. If you have a high GPA and sat/act score you’ll get a great scholarship- but you can only keep that scholarship if you stay above a cumulative 3.0.

I post/lurk often on the UD page. Here’s a link:
