Well I am in AP European history class this year, unfortunately I haven't done many DBQ's so any tips posted here would definately help me.

As far as I know, I would try and get the main idea about the whole situation from these documents, the question and the background. What generalization can you make from it? What can you conclude about Britain at the time?

From what I remember since we just covered this period is that the 1880's were a time of renewed Imperialism. Countries began to intensively grab land in Africa - Britain especially.

You can also make a generalization about how the masses have an effect on country's foreign affairs, and in this case, Britain. Tie the two extremes together. Try to make a message about how the masses had an effect in the time of imperialism. Nationalism can definately be tied into this.

Alright, well I hope that info helped you a bit. Let me know what you come up with.

DBQs are gifts from heaven if used correctly-they give you the information for free in the documents assuming you have studied well. The other FR essays don't allow that.
My teachers say include all the documents you can use and analyze effectively. Make sure to leave at least one out even if you have time, although I never do, since it equals a higher # points on the section.

I agree with kman, it would seem to me that DBQ's are easier then other types of essays because they give yuo background info and alot of documents to think of ideas. As long as you can plan effectively (which would help if you had general knowledge of the time period and Britain's role in this time period) then you should do pretty fine.

I think some extra reviewing of the time period and Britain should be enough to pass this sort of DBQ.
