Can someone please explain the connection? My brother was looking for highlights of the Davidson/C of Charleston game on YouTube and found about 10 videos of the Davidson fans singing "Sweet Caroline." What's with that?

Davidson is not alone in this as "Sweet Caroline" is very big at Boston sporting events. It it huge at Red Sox games and it has been quite some time since it wasn't sung at BC Football games.

I don't know the precise origins, but I know Neil Diamond gave a concert or something and said that other teams can try to claim it if they want, but it truly is "Davidson's song" :P

It was played a lot during the basketball season last year with the Georgetown upset. I think that must be when it started, but yeah, they play it at least once at all of our home games. It's our Zombie Nation.

Sweet Caroline started at Davidson College basketball games Curry's freshman year, 2006-2007 season. It is played at the eight minute media timeout. The Red Sox did sing it first, but Niel Diamond did a special Davidson performance (live via video) for the end of season celebration last year. A complete over-analysis of whether we should keep singing it can be found on davidsoncats.com, the Davidson athletics board.
