I'm a junior in high-school and a prospective UT student (Nursing to be specific). I was wondering if I should bother to take some pre-req classes such as GOV 310L and GOV312L in my community college instead of at UT? Are the GOV classes packed/difficult at UT since it's a pre-req? If not GOV then what other electives would you recommend to get out of the way (aside from US Hist, English, Math) such as Fine arts or Growth & development?

I'm pretty sure I'm goin to at least take GOV310L (since I need it to graduate HS)...but is there anything I should get out of the way?

Community college classes are incredibly easy so I don't see why not. I'd get as many pre-reqs done as you can. That's what I'm doing. By doing that you'll have more time for electives, and if you like the pre-req class that you've taken, you can take more interesting upper level classes in those areas as electives.

Try to get those classes out of the way. I personally don't really care for the government program here. I'd take those classes, and maybe RHE306 and E 316K in community college. Basically, anything from the general degree plan that you can get out of the way, go ahead and do so.

Get as many core classes like that out of the way as you can. GOV 310 is ridiculously easy at UT. GOV 312 can be harder, depending on the prof. Either way, it's better to get those credits out of the way with transfer credit if you can and spend your time at UT taking classes that really interest you/pertain to your major and making sure you graduate on time.

I agree that it can't hurt to go ahead and take any prereqs at a community college. GOV 310L is usually a big class that meets twice a week with smaller discussion sections that meet once a week. GOV 312L depends on the prof. Unless you're a GOV major, there's really no need to take them at UT. Ditto for the other subjects you mentioned.
