DC housing

I'll be working as an intern in DC this summer, and need to find a place to stay. I know people here have recommended GW housing and WISH (as well as Georgetown Law, but they unfortunately aren't offering housing this summer). I am open to sublet opportunities, but it seems harder to verify legitimacy when its just a post on Craigslist. Would prefer to stay near DC, not in Maryland/Virginia.

Suggestions? or past experiences? Thanks in advance.

check out houses along the metro line. If you don’t have a car, you will be relying in metro everyday to go to work and come back home. The metro is very convenient, and the housing around the metro usually is not that outrageously expensive. Besides, if you are interested in sharing houses with other people, check out University of Maryland, Georgetown, and George Washington’s students postings. Usually, you will have students from these universities studying/working summer term and are willing to lease the house during the summer with you.

Craigslist is your best bet. I’m saying that from experience. Oh and don’t immediately dismiss Virginia or Maryland. There are many more affordable housing options outside of DC. If you must live in DC, be prepared to shell out the big bucks.

WISH is definately providing summer housing.

VA/MD are pretty inconvenient though. If you’re near DC then definitely definitely visit the place. Otherwise ask people you know if their friends are leaving for the summer.

GW is way too expensive. You can find cheaper housing in Georgetown.

If you’re living in DC itself then I wouldn’t worry about public transportation. If the Metro isn’t near you then a bus line definitely will be.

VA/MD don’t necessarily have to be inconvenient. The Metro runs into Virginia and Maryland and the ride will only be a few minutes longer. It can potentially save you hundreds of dollars a month to live out of the District.
