De Anza College, textbooks?

Hey guys,

I'm attending De Anza College in the fall and was wondering how to figure out to order texts for courses? I plan on using Chegg or possibly another type of book rental service, as I learned from my first semester of college and buying from the bookstore!

Looking through MyPortal, I can't find any ISBN's or required texts/text lists... classes start the 24th, so as far as shipping I am not in the biggest hurry. However, I'm actually moving from PA to CA on the 15th, so which address they're being shipped to is slightly important.

All/any replies will be appreciated!

Click on the left link ‘Textbooks’ here: [De Anza College Bookstore | DeAnza College Bookstore](http://books.deanza.edu/home.aspx)

Right now there are no terms available to see textbook lists for courses, but very soon there should be since classes do start in 4 weeks.

Not sure if you’ve attended DA before, but they usually have enough books in the bookstore and also have a rental policy, and you’re almost guaranteed to get the book you need used at worst case scenario. When you get the ISBNs from the website, I seriously recommend checking Amazon. I’ve found slightly used books dirt cheap there, plus you can even try to sell them back to DA when you’re done with them. For example, I’ve purchased a used $12 book from Amazon and sold it back to DA for $20 - I made $8. This is rare, but it can happen with the right books. I’ve never used online rental services because I’ve felt that between DA and Amazon I can get what I need on the cheaper side without too much extra hassel.

I’m told there’s also a bookstore across the street from DA (where the Panda Express is) that you can get books even cheaper than the DA bookstore (competition cuz as far as I know DA doesn’t run the place), but they don’t have as wide a selection as DA, just a lot of main or general course books. I’ve never been, but I’m told.

If you’re worried about an address is probably best to just send them to where you will be on the 15th - if someone can hold on to them for you. Remember, you won’t need the text for the first day of class, and I’ve known students to wait until then just in case the professor ends up telling people not to buy the text and it saves them some dough and effort. This happened in not one, but two of my classes last quarter.

Awesome, makes a lot of sense, thanks. First semester at DeAnza, family is moving to CA in spring/summer 2013 so I chose to make a head start, and also have family in Cupertino, but have lived in Pittsburgh, PA all my life.

Didn’t know about DA’s rental service, that’s great. Probably will do just that and wait for the first week of classes to purchase texts, even if the rental service is higher than online rental, I’ll have piece of mind in knowing I have the books I need, nothing more nothing less… also will check that out.

Thanks!
