De Anza Placement tests

Hey guys! This is pretty late notice but I only got my ap scores a few days ago :\
Do I have to report my ap scores to deanza before registering for classes? Or can I just sign up for classes before my scores are in the system? With it, I pass out of English and Bio placement tests.

Also, I haven't taken the math placement test yet... And I'm going to be out of the area for the July dates. Do I HAVE to take the placement test? I'm not planning on taking calculus (or any math class) in the fall quarter, so is the placement test necessary if I'm not going to take the class?

I am planning on taking the test later, probably spring quarter. Still, do I have to take the test now? :[

Answers and advice are greatly appreciated!

Report your AP score immediately to clear any unnecessary prerequisite! And you don’t even need to worry about math placement, since you already have everything covered by the AP exams

Thanks! But I only managed to pass out of Statistics. I never took AP Calculus, thus never took the exam. Do you think it’ll be alright if I don’t take the placement test until next quarter?

I thought you took and passed AP Calc T_______T

In your case, I think you need to take the placement ASAP. If you fail to get to Calculus, you can: (1) wait a quarter, do NOT start any math class, review, and take the placement test again during winter quarter (2) take pre-calc and move on to calcI later on. If you take it now, you get 2 tries. Defer it til’ next quarter and if you fail, you’re doomed. See what I’m trying to say? The placement result stays with you even if you don’t take any calculus class next quarter ;)

Hey, welcome to De Anza. :)

You want to take your math placement test before you want to take math. If you don’t plan on taking math yet, then it’s fine. I’m also pretty sure the math test is walk in. I didn’t take a calculus placement test, so maybe it’s different, but you should be able to just walk in and take it in August or September, too.

If you plan on registering for say, EWRT 2 (for which you need to have passed EWRT 1A or AP English) or maybe BIOL 6A (which requires advances placement), then yes, you have to report AP scores before registering for those classes. I expect that if you don’t take those in the fall, then you can probably take your time on submitting scores, but I’ve never personally taken an AP test, so I wouldn’t know.

The counseling office is open. There’s no appointments in summer, but if you go in the morning it shouldn’t be a terribly long wait. It’s upstairs in the building with admissions and records and the bookstore. If you want to be totally sure, you can always try with them.
