DE Chances?

So I read on the other thread about how weird the admissions were for students coming in with an AA degree. I'm starting DE next year but I wasn't planning on getting my entire AA degree by graduation. Do you think I have a higher chance of getting accepted as DE student with a lot of college credits but not quite enough for a full AA, or more likely with my AA degree? I'll be majoring in biology and be pre-med. Thanks alot :)

No, you’ll be going to the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences. College of Medicine is a graduate school.

My bad  thanks.

make sure you check out the pre-reqs for whatever program you are entering…The only person I know who got in with DE AA had all of the pre-reqs for the major…and I don’t think it is much easier to transfer in without an AA

Bump.
Basically: more likely to get in with AA degree (through dual enrollement) or like 40 college credits?

I had two friends get accepted, both DE - one had a full AA, the other had lots of credits but not an AA. They both had great grades and outstanding EC’s, and they both got in. (Note: If you’re getting the AA, make sure you have all the pre-reqs!)

So in my opinion, as long as you do well in your classes and have an excellent application, you’ll be fine no matter what you choose.

excellent application?

as a transfer it’s purely academic (i.e. gpa)

I’d say get your A.A., but make sure you have ALL of your pre-reqs!!! I had an almost perfect GPA with an A.A. (3.9, 4.0 pre-prof), but not all of the pre-reqs because I was unaware of this rule, as many people were, so I got rejected. But honestly, unless you dream of going to UF, go somewhere where they value the hard work it takes to do this in high school. I got denied because I simply didn’t have all of the pre-reqs, but I’ve gotten scholarships and honors invites from other universities with higher ranked programs (political science). Just make sure you’re in contact with someone who knows what they’re talking about so that you don’t miss the fine-print.

AT9, sorry to hear about your bad luck… however, no part of the pre-reqs are a secret. even through bad advice after bad advice from cc advisors i did the easy hw and took the classes needed.

^ It wasn’t a secret, but I had asked just about every question imaginable of the UF advisors (not CC people) and NONE of them told me I would need all of my pre-reqs. I would ask if it mattered what I majored in and what major I applied for, and they would all tell me the same thing… “It doesn’t matter what your major is at your current college.” I did my homework, but the people who should have known what they’re talking about either didn’t or just didn’t tell me. I did have bad luck, but it was not because of a lack of research on my part.

Thanks everyone, I’d still like to hear some more answers/opinions. And yes I do dream of going to UF haha it’s my top choice. But with my GPA now I doubt I’ll get in, but I am doing DE next year and anything I can do to improve my chance I’ll try to do. If it’s harder to get in as a transfer with an AA, then I won’t do that. But if it will help my chances more than just having 40ish credits then I’ll try to get my AA. :)

I am probably asking the obvious, but where are the prereqs listed on the uf website? I followed one link from another thread to the uf majors, but only found the critical tracking information. Are all the courses listed in the critical tracking from semesters 1-4 the prerequisites?

P.S. If it applies, could you post a link?

https://www.isis.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/nirvana?MDASTRAN=RSI-ETMEN

i really don’t think it would matter. but if you’re going to get your AA, you definitely need to make sure you meet the prereqs for your major. i’m graduating HS with my AA, and i got accepted. and i have friends with lots of DE credits but who aren’t getting an AA who got accepted.

thanks for the link
question: if I were to graduate HS with more than 60 credits with prereqs but no AA, what would be the chances compared to AA with prereqs or non-AA with prereqs?

As long as you have more than 60 and less than 90 credits, finished most of your general education requirements, and your pre-professional classes, your chances are great. You have to meet the college’s minimum, competitive GPA.

My opinion is NOT to get your AA. Take DE classes and some HS classes and apply as a FTIC freshman with DE credits and NOT as a transfer with an AA. 40 credits–great. 60 credits and an AA, you can get boxed into a corner.

It is better to come in with your AA, because you get freshman benefits as well as being a junior. I know UF has a policy if you don’t make it in as a freshman, you will make it in as a transfer. So any way you get in. I go to a AA/HS school and I made it is as a freshman, but i know people who weren’t as lucky. So they will come in as transfer. However if you do DE and don’t make it in you won’t make it in.
