De Neve vs. Sunset Village

What are the differences between the two? Which one is better? Which has better food/better location?

Why do you ask? You can't choose between the two unless you're a sophomore. I'd been hoping on DeNeve but ended up with Sunset Village for next year, but both are pretty nice.

DeNeve is closer to south campus/bruin walk whereas Sunset is closer to north campus...

What are the chances of me appealing (Dykstra triple) and requesting to be placed in a plaza double? Bad? :D

Because I'm having second thoughts about living in a plaza the first year. I also notice that the capacity of each plaza is enormous, giving me hope that they have room or something.

Deneve is the way to go, its a lot newer than sunset and closer to westwood and campus. Food is universally good in all the dorms there is no difference, this is coming from a 2nd year at ucla, who got a deneve double in his first year.

sbruin2007, is De Neve as social as the dorms? De Neve sounds nice...but I want to go somewhere that's social and not quiet.

actually now that you bring that up, you have to make opportunities for yourself. Each floor in deneve has much fewer residents than a res hall floor, but there are opportunities like floor government which allow you ample opportunity to make friends. It depends on the type of person you are, deneve is def a lot quieter than the other dorms but I like inmho, gettin up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom is a lot more convenient than going out into a hallway at 4 am.

"Which has better food/better location?"

i think the location question as far as campus proximity has already been answered. but for food, you know you can eat anywhere right? but de neve is closer to the de neve dining hall and crossroads eatery. sunset is closer to covel dining hall, puzzles eatery, and bruin cafe eatery. i personally give the advantage to sunset.

Sunset looks a little older and not quite as nice as De Neve. It's little further to walk but only about a short block. Some make it sound like there is such a difference in location. GO to UCSB if you want to see dorms spread out. All UCLA dorms are in the same neighborhood. We were told that most of the sports teams are in Sunset so they must not think those are that inferior considering how they pamper jocks:>)

De Neve is physically nicer than Sunset, and closer to campus to boot.

Anyone got some pictures of sunset?

Here is a link off the UCLA web site. This only has a couple of exterior pictures.

i found out that sunset doesnt really look like those pictures lol... i think it looks better

De Neve is newer and maybe nicer looking. Also closer to the main walk way to the campus. Sunset may be a better location since it has the cafe, the pizza place and a 7/11 type store.

I love Delta Terrace!!! It looks so urban/industrial... hopefully that's where I end up :)

so basically, de neve is better than sunset, but both are really good. Right?
