Deactivating Facebook Profile

Should I deactivate my facebook profile after 1/1 or doesn’t it matter regarding the admission process?

Unless you have a ton of grossly inappropriate stuff on it (illegal activities, etc. in which you probably wouldn’t be suitable for the college anyway), deactivating your FB profile for that sole purpose seems pointless.

You can easily go to your settings(Privacy) and make it impossible to bring up your profile in a web search. If it gives you some peace of mind.

Just out of curiosity, does everybody think admissions officers actually look at FB posts? The one time someone asked when my daughter and I were visiting colleges the person leading the info session said no, we don’t have time.

Can’t imagine there being time. But a coach interested in recruiting a student would be an entirely different story and I’d guess the answer would be yes, the coach would likely try to learn everything possible about a student-especially before the coach was free to interact with the student. So this might be before the student even considered colleges.

That’s unnecessary - most people I know just change their FB name so that if on the off chance a college searches for you on the Internet, they can’t find your FB profile.

What are you planning to do after 1/1 that you wouldn’t want the schools to see?
