Dead thread!!!

Why is temples thread so dead! I mean, it hasnt been accessed scince 2/18/06!! A few questions:
1. Does temple have a good broadcast journalism program?
2. Is the campus clean?
3. What do you think the negative things about temple are?

I am an in-state student and am thinking of applying to temple as a safety school!! Please give me advie! Thanks!

i'm out of state student and i'd like for a current student to answer those questions as well as a few of my own:

1) Does Temple have a good history program?
2) I have a 3.8 GPA and 2000 SAT score (730 reading, 650 math, 620 writing). Am I pretty much a shoe in?

good campus, only reason i didnt go is im a party person and dont wanna get shot off campus

That's a generalization that many people make, and it is rediculous and untrue, and unfortunatley, Temple loses too many potential students thanks to that same rediculous notion. Temple is as safe as YOU make it to be. As i've been told, if you look for trouble, you'll find it. Just dont be an idiot and safety is no problem.

shazilla your in, easily, probably with money and the honors program

thanks for your reply. one thing i heard is that public schools don't give good financial aid to out of state kids, is this true with temple? i mean the cost of tuition (for out of state) at temple and room and board is more than what my parents make in a year... i'd like to go to temple but i don't think i'd be able to afford it.

well i can only tell you from my experience, i was accepted back in jan and i'm coming from out of state. public schools, and more specifically temple, give out good financial aid, but it costs dramatically less than a private education (even out of state), therefor the numbers will seem smaller. but if you qualify for financial aid, and it sounds like you do, then they will give you lots. for me unfortunately, i live in southern california where cost of living is higher and it skewed how much my parent could contribute, but i still got federally subsidized loans, work study and a scholarship.

temple's mission is to aid first generation college students and i think they do a good job on spreading whatever help they can give to those that need it.

and to the OP: i'm not a student yet, but i visited and am enrolling

1) yes they have a good journalism/broadcasting program, when i was applying to schools it consistantly came up as a good choice in conversations etc.

2) the campus is in the city so...it obviously wont look like rolling prisine green hills and stuff, but when i went on my visit the campus is very well maintained...but it still looks like a city

3) the beauracracy consistantly gets complained about but i hear that about every large school there is. but talking to them on the phone alone sometimes is a headache, so i could understand. umm...apparantly there are some pretty ferocious squirrels on campus...
and some people would say the surrounding area is a negative but the area has gotten better in the past years. is it THE safest, probably not, but every campus in a city has these problems

Hey, I'm not a Temple student, but tons of my friends are and I spend a lot of time in the area (I'm from the Philly suburbs and a lot of kids from my high school end up going to Temple), so I thought I'd put my two cents in about your second question --

Temple's not in the nicest part of Philly, but that also doesn't mean that it's in the worst part either. I think the area gets a bad rep, but I've spent many nights walking around the campus, even just me and a friend (I'm a girl too), and I've never felt unsafe. Everything is pretty well lit.

Like someone else said, it's city streets, so it might not necessarily be as "clean" as a less urban campus, but there are a few quad-type areas of campus that give you that feel.

Can't really comment on anything else but the party scene, but everyone I know there seems really happy with Temple.

GGWU, what school?
