Dead Week

It's Dead Week. I should be studying...but I just don't feel like it. None of my classes are interesting to me--which is why I changed majors. Therefore studying sucks. Oh well, life goes on.

PS--To answer the question that will undoubtedly be asked: There is no point to this post. Just stating the facts.

same...i hate chemistry

What's "Dead Week"? Is that the week before exams?

It's called that because OH MY GOD I WANT TO DIE.

maybe that's not why. but really, I do.

It's called Dead Week, because that's when everything is pretty much dead on campus. What I mean is that there are usually no more classes or student events going on. Also, student groups on campus may have to finalize their Fall semester/quarter budgets during this time period, meaning no more spending.

And yes, it is the period before final exams.

ugh. the school I'm at right now has this stupid rule that teachers can't have anything due or give tests the week before finals. so they have a TON of stuff due friday, including tests, and takehome tests, and say "it's due friday, but you can turn it in late" so it ends up being a LOT more.

I'd so much rather have that than ~25 pages and a final BEFORE finals week. blah.

Dead Week here means that clubs can't have ANY meetings, for whatever reason, unless they get approval from the Student Government and I think the University President. And usually the only clubs granted permission are sports clubs that compete intercollegiately. Also, we DO have to attend class as usual. It's just that no major projects can be assigned and no tests may be given unless they take place of a Final Exam (Examples: I have a Health test on Friday; I do not have a Health test during Finals week. I have an Annotated Bibliography (grr...) that's due the Tuesday of finals but no exam). And 23-hour quiet hours are strictly enforced in the dorms. Normally quiet hours are 11PM to 6AM Sunday through Thursday night and 1AM to 6AM Friday and Saturday. Our one hour "power hour" is 9 to 10PM and we can be as loud as we want and do basically whatever we want (within reason, of course). Thankfully the ski hill opens the Friday of Finals week to let the stress out...

Guys, keep this in mind:

"When you go to take your final, just treat it like a regular day. Don't even think you have a test, let alone a final."

Yes, you need to know your stuff. But don't care about a TEST so much! Approach it like you're just going to go and hang with your friends and have a big worksheet! (This technique has worked for me...overcame test anxiety from it, and it came from an unlikely source...I got this advice as a senior in HS when the giver was a freshman).

Dead week is a week where there is no classes so people can study for finals. You guys must go to some intense schools. Dead Week(Reading Week here) at Northwestern means everyone parties for 3-4 days, and start studying on that friday.

OIC. Our college gives us 2 Reading Days to study for finals -- Saturday and Sunday -_-. Quite a bit of stuff is due this week though, for both me and others I've been talking to.

I commute though, so a lot of this stuff about clubs and quiet hours in dorms doesn't apply to me. I'd enjoy a week at home before finals, it'd give me lots of time to get a lot of studying done.

We have two dead days, today and tomorrow. It only means no classes though (and 24 hour quiet hours in the dorms).

I actually had a class today, though it was optional. My professor basically went over what she wants us to do for the final, though, so it was quite beneficial to go. And a lot of people have Christmas parties and stuff during dead days. Because it's only two days, people don't party the entire time, but they don't hole themselves up in their rooms, either.

I agree. I actually have stuff due during dead days.

OP, you go to U of L?

Iowa State actually...

we have classes till Friday, and exams start on Monday.

Friday is a party though, then it's down to business.

Dead week here is this week, no tests or large quizzes allowed unless they take the place of the final for that class and there isnt one during finals week. Other than that its not really dead...I've never heard of that no students meetings rule before, thats kinda interesting
