My daughter's biological father lives overseas and does not support her financially. Her stepfather and i will list our financial info on the FAFSA, but do I need to try to fill in her biological father's information? I doubt I'd get anything from him.

If she is applying to a college that utilizes Profile or has their own financial aid forms requiring both bio parents information then yes, the bio father’s information will be required. You (or she) will need to check each college website to find out what forms if any in addition to FAFSA are required. If she has colleges that require Profile, the bio father would fill out their own information or you (she) will need to ask for a waiver from the college.

If she is applying to FAFSA only schools, then her bio dad’s info is NOT included.

If she is applying to CSS Profile schools that require NCP info, that will likely be a problem since the schools will not process her FA paperwork without that info.

Warning…even if you can get such a NCP to fill out the CSS Profile paperwork for this year, it doesn’t sound like he’d be the type that you could rely on every year to fill the paperwork out. That could be disastrous for future years. In this case, I would avoid any CSS schools that require NCP info.

Some CSS Profile schools will waive the NCP paperwork if that parent has not been involved in the child’s life for a long time or cannot be located at all. If that is your situation, speak with the financial aid offices and ask what kind of documentation you would need to provide as evidence.
