Thought it would be fun to hear anyone's final decision on Iowa, yay or nay, and rationale.

Happy to say my son is IN for biomedical engineering and the Honors program. It was a tough decision vs. Marquette but the better research and co op opportunities at Iowa won out. And for 5k less!

Now to examine the Hawkeyes football schedule to plan a visit!!

Congrats on your sons decision. I was also admitted into the University of Iowa, could possibly be attending though I have until May 1st, looking at other students financial aid packages at other schools a decision to attend such a great school ( Iowa) could be simple.

I just found out today that I was accepted @ Iowa with a scholarship(small.) I was waitlisted at Minnesota and am on the extended waitlist at UW, with an appeal in process currently. I should hear back from the U by this week on the waitlist…if I’m not in there, it’s between U of Iowa or UW-La Crosse. The only thing that would hold me back from going to Iowa in that case would be the out-of-state tuition cost!

Coolbrezze, what’s your decision? You’ve racked up almost 4200 posts here on CC and have two weeks to make up your mind. Have you visited any campuses? What’s your pick?

Beastman - Definitely get the student season ticket for the home football games - son had a blast this past fall, even though previously he wasn’t that into football. Wouldn’t miss it for the world, come August.

Mominator, I agree. Any trepidation about Iowa should vanish by 10am on the day of the first home game. Or earlier! We attended the first home game last year - admissions had sent an offer to buy not-great but cheap tickets - and the campus was crazy that day. I think this gives the entire weekend and really, the whole campus experience, a whole new dimension. Might seem a little shallow to think so, but it sure beats what I see at other, non-football schools, which is sleeping in and playing video games all day.

Looks like I’m in at U of Iowa. I have to see how credits will potentially transfer to UW-Madison, as I’m looking at transferring after a year…but if everything works out decently well, I’m gonna be a … Hawkeye. Oh god…can’t believe I just typed that!! :)

That’s great, GoBucky! I think Iowa has a very Madison-esque vibe, but smaller. I went to UW Madison (1983) and wanted my son to go there (reciprocal tuition w/MN, of course) but really quickly came to realize that Iowa is a better fit and has much better capacity in his field of study. Sadly it’ll cost an additional 10k/year. As a WI resident, you’re in a similar boat. Best of luck and who knows - maybe you’ll stay a Hawkeye!

Looks like my D has selected Iowa (I’ll wait until May 1 to be 100% sure, but she seems to have made up her mind. I’m really excited about her choice – I think it is a great fit for her).

For housing, she is deciding whether to update her housing preferences by this Friday, choosing between an east side quiet house (Burge, Stanley, Currier), or an LLC like Healthy Living or Community Service. Any advice on any of these alternatives would be appreciated. She is not a huge party animal, so a quiet house or an LLC seems like a good fit.

Also, I was thinking about buying her a football ticket as a present – looks like student tix are general admission. Any reason to either wait (i.e. to see if she makes friends she wants to go with…hopefully a slam dunk) or hurry (i.e. they sell out early, especially following an Orange Bowl season)?

rwehavingfunyet,
You had me in a panic about football tickets so I phoned the ticket office. Incoming frosh can buy tix at Orientation and not before. Whew.

Well, it comes right after making sure the housing app shows Daum as first choice. Both honors program and football are big selling points I used, and the LAST thing I need is to say, “oh, about the honors dorm/football ticket/whatever that I told you would be so cool… it’s not happening.” That would spell mutiny!
