Hey... I wasn't originally planning on applying to Dartmouth, but I just received a mail that says they are willing to extend the Jan 1st deadline to Jan 15th to gather and submit my app

Is this just a plea for my money or are they actually interested in me... as in recruiting... I dont think IVY's recruit so idk...
Did anyone else get this

I dont think I will apply... I was just wondering because the notion of extending a deadline seems like something some state or lesser academic school would use not a school as prestigious as Dartmouth

Have you made an inquiry on Darmouth's website?

Did you join their mailing list?

This is just marketing. Don't read too much into it as Dartmouth is still going to have many more applications than seats to admit the class of 2012.

such extensions are not uncommon at all. When my S was accepted ED, he had a half dozen apps waiting to hit the mailbox. Obviously, with the ED acceptance, he never submitted the other apps. But, after Jan 1, several schools (all highly selective) e-mailed him and inquired if the "app had gotten lost in the mail" (or something similar) and invited him to send it in by Jan 15 for full consideration. Personally, I thought it was a classy action on the part of the school.
