We encourage teachers and counselors to submit the required forms to us by the postmark deadlines above whenever possible. We understand that it may not be possible in some cases for teachers and counselors to meet these deadlines, and we will make reasonable allowances. This will not negatively impact your chance of admission.

Does reasonable allowances mean under extenuating circumstances for certain people, or a few days for everyone? The thing is... the difference between allowing submission after the 31st, like let's say the 3rd or 4th, gives me an extra week and a half to finish my app since my school has this online thing where everything has to be submitted tonight because my school needs to finish things up before break.

Honestly there seems to be a lot of leeway for school forms. I mean it is obviously better if they are there ASAP but even if they get there in late Jan it should not be a problem.

As long as the student-submitted part of the application is postmarked by the deadline, colleges, as a general rule, give teacher and counselor’s reports a 2-3 week grace period.

“… gives me an extra week and a half to finish my app since my school has this online thing where everything has to be submitted tonight because my school needs to finish things up before break.”

Just to be clear: As a student, you must – ABSOLUTELY MUST – submit the common app and supplemental applications to colleges by the appropriate deadline. Teachers and counselor’s are given a grace period, not students.

@gibby, I meant it gives me an extra week and a half because for the SCHOOL to finish forms by Dec 31st, I would need to submit TONIGHT. If not, I have until the deadline.

It all depend on your high school. If your school allows you to fill in the school-forms late, then I think it would be okay, as they are sending them in late. Most schools, however, send their schools forms to colleges before closing for the Christmas-New Years break.

rainbowrose: you are seriously over thinking this. They actually WANT to read your application. If something’s missing, they’ll contact the school.
