Deadline

My friend on the west coast submitted his application to Johns Hopkins today. According to our time zone, EST, he would be considered late because we are three hours ahead of him. The common application date on his account says submitted 1/2. Will Johns Hopkins still review his application or is he screwed? Thanks guys. This is my first time on College Confidential.

No! I believe the Common App website says something along the lines of: The time of this website is EST, but schools will take your essays if you submit it on time in your timezone.

We will process all applications submitted throughout the day on January 1st and also any applications submitted on January 2nd. We do this because of time zone differences and server issues related to the Common App.

But do you see why I strongly suggest not procrastinating!!!

Oops... I retract my previous statement! Apparently the Common App website says:

"Schools located in other time zones may accept your documents up until the posted deadline in their local timezone, even though your submission time stamp will be recorded in eastern time."

...but I guess AdmissionsDaniel already answered your question.

Here is some official language we are using for applicants who submitted online application materials on January 2nd:

"The Johns Hopkins University's Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be processing all online application submissions for the entire day of January 1, 2008 as well as January 2, 2008. We are allowing online submissions for January 2nd (one day after our application deadline) because of time zone issues for some applicants, and other applicants who experienced technical difficulties while submitting their application. Application materials submitted on January 2nd will be processed and one's chances for admissions will not be impacted by the materials being submit after the stated deadline."
