Deadlines for financial aid??

I am applying ED to GWU...is the financial aid deadline usually the same as the application deadline, or is it later?

The financial aid form on GWU's website is for last year, but it was due 11/15. Looks like it's around the same time as the app is due. You are using estimated financial info based on last year's taxes, so you can gather the info you'll need now & fill things in as soon as the new form is online.

The information below is from the George Washington University Website. It, however, gives the deadlines for last year (why, I don't know). You probably should call to check for this year's deadlines. It looks like part I of the financial aid application is due Novermber 15 and it looks like the Profile is due November 15and these are used for the preliminary financial aid award for ED students. The tax returns you would send with this would be your signed ones from 2007, I believe. The FAFSA is due February 1 and the tax returns for 2008 would be needed as well to finalize the award. Please call George Washington University to verify the deadlines for those applying for aid for the 2009-2010 school year. What is below is one year old.

1.Financial Aid Application: Part 1

Deadline: November 15,2007

(Required for a preliminary award)

Attached to the application, please submit to the financial aid office copies of the Parent and Student (if filed) 2006 SIGNED Federal Tax Returns and ALL 2006 W-2 Statements.
If the student and/or parent did not file a tax form, you must complete a form called “Certification That Tax Return Was/Is Not Required To Be Filed For The 2006 Tax Year”.
2.CSS Profile

Deadline: November 15, 2007

(Required for a preliminary award)

This is completed on-line at <www.collegeboard.com>. CSS School code is 5246.
You must complete the registration with CSS before completing the actual application. Registration is also completed on-line at :: College Planning Made Easy | Inside Source for College Admissions Requirements.
For assistance you can email CSS at help@cssprofile.org or call at 1-800-778-6888.
To be as accurate as possible use year to date pay stubs and bank statements to help with your estimates. Compare data with 2006 federal taxes. Please be as accurate as possible, as variances with finalized information can result in an adjusted award. </www.collegeboard.com></p>

3.FAFSA

Deadline: February 1, 2008

(Required for a finalized award)

This is completed on-line at <www.fafsa.ed.gov>. GW’s school code is 001444.
For assistance you can call 1-800-4FED AID (800-433-3242).
If you have not filed your 2007 Federal Tax Returns by this point you must still submit the FAFSA using estimated figures.
4.Financial Aid Application: Part 2</www.fafsa.ed.gov></p>

Deadline: May 1, 2008

(Required for finalized award)

To complete the student’s file and confirm the estimated award we have provided based on the 2006 tax information we need to have signed copies of the Parent and Student 2007 SIGNED Federal Tax Returns and ALL W-2 Statements submitted to the financial aid office attached to the financial aid application.
Do not send ESTIMATED copies of the 2007 Taxes. We need signed copies of the actual 2007 Tax Return and all schedules that were sent to the IRS. (The IRS E-file confirmation is not acceptable). Please be aware that if you have an extension from the IRS for your taxes, we will be unable to finalize an award until we receive the final taxes. We are unable to make exceptions to this requirement, regardless of the IRS granting an extension.
If the student and/or parent did not file a tax form, you must complete a form entitled “Certification That Tax Return Was/Is Not Required To Be Filed For The 2007 Tax Year”.
If you list on the PROFILE and FAFSA that you will have a sibling in college for the 2008-2009 academic year, you will need to have the sibling’s school confirm this. Please complete the “2008-2009 Sibling Enrollment Verification for GW Incoming Students” and send to sibling’s institution for verification.
Please submit any of the following documents that apply to you:
Ø Social Security Recipients—Submit ALL 2007 1099-SS Forms for all family members receiving benefits.

Ø Student’s Proof of Citizenship Status (if not U.S.).

Ø GW Family Grant Application (if you will have a sibling enrolled at GW as a full-time undergraduate in 2008 -2009).

**Please always include the Student’s Name, Social Security Number, and Early Decision 2008-2009 on all documents submitted to the Financial Aid Office.
