If my school has a January 15th deadline and I sent my application in the mail on the 14th and had it postmarked, would it be considered late if the college recieved the application after the 15th? My other question was whether or not supplements were usually due on the same date as the application. My counsler said that it would be ok if teacher recommendations and SAT scores were sent in past the deadline. Is this correct?

was wondering about this too. Also, do they look at the date submitted, will they go like "oh this kid likes to procrastinate, we dont like him."

the mail room would have to take note of the postmark before ripping the envelope for the adcom to see the postmark. not sure about commonapp

Usually supplementary materials should be sent within a week of the deadline.

Also, deadlines are postmark deadlines unless noted otherwise by the college - i.e. they will tell you if it is an "in our office" deadline.
