There have been a number of recent threads regarding deadlines. I would urge all applicants to look on their college(s) websites for this information. The deadlines for financial aid applications are clearly posted on the financial aid sections of the schools' websites. The deadlines for admissions are posted in the admissions section. Please don't forget to check. The deadlines for financial aid applications are not the same as for applications. As many have noticed...there is sometimes an early priority filing for the Profile.

In addition find out what you need to send...and send it on time (tax returns, etc).

Deadlines are there for a reason. Check to see when the deadlines are and do not miss them.

I'm bumping my own thread to the top....because there have been a couple more threads about missed deadlines.

If you are sending an application to a college....PLEASE take the time to look in the financial aid section of the website for ALL of the DEADLINES for financial aid application materials...and then DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINES.

Deadlines vary by school and what you see for one school may not be accurate for another. Check them ALL.

I agree with Thumper1, but I do wish that the colleges would make this information more clearly available on their websites. There's no telling where it will be buried at any given school, and it is one more hassle that applicants don't need right now. I wish that every school had an applicant checklist with the associated deadlines that you could just print out.

And if you are asked for additional info after you file for financial aid ... PLEASE send it in as soon as possible. At our school, you can file on time but still lose out on aid if you don't bother sending in requested documentation in a timely manner.

Again, I'm bumping this thread. Since the last posting there have been a number of additional threads about missed DEADLINES. December 1 is Monday and that is the deadline for many of the competitive merit scholarship applications for many schools (some of those deadlines have passed).

To ALL...check the deadlines for your financial aid aps for EVERY college. You will find that some have a deadline in January which means you will need to file your FAFSA/Profile using estimates...so start collecting the needed information NOW. DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINE.

And a caution...this is a message board. You really should verify deadlines with your college(s). Check the college website, call the finaid office.

DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINES (for financial aid OR admissions).

Maybe this ought to be pinned to the top until the application season is over....just a thought since so many additional threads about missed deadlines have cropped up. If this little thread saves someone from missing the deadline...it's worth it.

I totally agree! I just posted a caveat on the Brown site about applicants who missed FA deadlines! Many students these days are given extensions upon extensions for deadlines, and as a teacher who never gives extensions, I can say that it's a bad habit. Procrastination runs rampant in our schools, and it's such a bad thing to fall victim to. I agree that this should be a sticky at the top of the page; a huge amount of stress, to say nothing of missed opportunities, could be avoided by getting there early.
