Deadlines

Hello applicants!

With all the excitement about status changes, don't forget about financial aid deadlines. For those not getting any status updates, bear in mind that depending on individual circumstances, some financial aid applicants will receive need-based grants that are as much as the "big" scholarships. APPLY!

The FAFSA and CSS/Profile deadline of February 2nd is fast approaching. If you haven't already, get your FAFSA PIN and start on the forms - file them using estimates if your parents haven't completed their taxes yet. You just update the FAFSA later after they file (and yes, it is fine if that update is after the deadline as long as the form is first filed by the deadline). Please check USC's financial aid website for more information: USC Financial Aid

And the FAQ thread: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/839970-faq-usc-financial-aid-2010-a.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/839970-faq-usc-financial-aid-2010-a.html</a></p>

Good luck to all!!!

So as of Feb 2nd, all we need to do is the FAFSA and the CSS profile right? And then we just need to send our parent’s tax returns by march? And is that basically it? I’m a transfer student so i don’t know if it’s the same or not.

alamemom…do you know if the CSS profile for returning students is also due by Feb 2nd? I know the FAFSA is, but I checked last year’s file and saw that we filed the CSS AFTER tax returns were done, around end February and it was fine.
Just wanted to make sure.

For returning students (new applicants - don’t even look at this!!!) the FAFSA and CSS/Profile deadline is March 2nd, 2010, and your tax returns are due May 3rd, 2010.

For transfer applicants, the deadlines appear to be the same as for new applicants - February 2nd. (This seems strange to me as the transfer applications for admission are not due until February 1st.) Do your best to get at least estimated forms in by then, or as soon as possible.

Alamemom…thanks! Gives me a bit a breathing room this busy week, whew!

My D however did get an email that the FAFSA was due Feb 2nd though. She will be a Junior next fall.
Would the March 2 deadline be for the corrected FAFSA and CSS, or the prelim one?

Those are the dates on the USC financial aid webite for returning students:

And we applied in March last year, so her reminder stating Feb 2nd may have been an automatically generated error. The corrections can be submitted after March 2nd - I know we did a correction in May last year, and received financial aid without a hitch.

Thanks alamemom…I should have looked that up. I stayed up very late last night getting the FAFSA done while I have a deadline for my work…oh well…at least it’s done.

I envy you - I still have to do ours! I wish I was done with it - what a relief it is to have it over with!

One last reminder:

**The FAFSA and CSS/Profile are due February 2, 2010. **Two days from today. If you think there is any possibility that you will qualify for need-based aid, get them in ASAP.

If your taxes are not yet done, USE ESTIMATES and file by the deadline. You can update later (yes, after Feb 2nd is fine for corrections) when you file your taxes.

USC guarantees to meet 100% of USC-determined need for all students who FILE BY THE DEADLINE. Applicants who miss the deadline are considered for reduced financial aid.

DON’T MISS THE FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES!!!
