Deadly college caravan tours at hotels

Hanna: if an admissions officer pushed out an offensive edgy e-mail, well, they deserve admonishment.

But we are focused on live presentations to parents and students. As I explained earlier, there is a difference between being compelling and unique, and “out there” and “edgy.” We wish more live presentations from admissions officers were the former and not the latter. And certainly note deadly boring either.

"True story: The college reps are all having a drink together in the hotel bar after the event and discussing the fact that parent after parent came up to them after the slide show and asked a question that was covered in the slides (and the talk, and the brochure, and the web site). Just be glad that you’re good at retaining information, and seek other ways to compare schools because these sessions aren’t useful to you. "

I suspect much of that is just the parents trying to make some sort of personal connection by asking something…anything at all, while not being too pushy, etc (since we read about the importance of ‘showing interest’ in a school, who knows what you may be keeping track of when you meet parents at these events? lol
