My math teacher is really screwing over my grade and GPA. He can’t teach for life, makes the tests ridiculously hard and is extremely stubborn. Its almost the end of the year and I’m struggling to improve my grade. It’s unfair how people who are worse at math than me have a better grade because they got the better teacher (not that I’m some math genius). The grades in all my other subjects are fine, except math, and it’s bringing down my GPA like crazy! I’m not trying to make any excuses or anything, but my math teacher is really just plain awful. How can I deal with this?
Have you talked to a GC? It is always best to face the problem head on. Why didn’t you say something at the beginning of the year? It’s a bit too late now. Which math class is it and what is your grade?
At this point, you pretty much have to deal the hand you’ve been dealt.
- Which math class are you taking?
- Have you been a regular at extra help? If not with your own teacher, then how about someone else in the department? Kids always think we care if one of our kids goes to another teacher for help--- honest, we really don't care at all. As long as our kids are getting help, we don't care who it's from.
- Consider starting a study group-- and including kids who have the other teacher(s) if that makes sense.
- Again, not sure what course you're taking, but for anything up to Algebra II & Trig (as well as lots of non-math courses), this is a great resource: http://www.regentsprep.org/ It's a prep site for the NY State Regents exam, but is a great interactive review of lots of high school courses.
- There are lots of math videos out there that explain the main topics. I'm not a real fan of Khan Academy; I find them too dry. But take a look at teachertube.com or educreations.com Or google "teacher videos on the Law of Cosines" or whatever fits.
