Dean Dad's reflections on Tulane

I've posted links to Dean Dad's blog before.

His blog offers some thoughtful and provocative commentary on higher education trends from his perspective as a dean. Thanks to anonymity, there is a refreshing amount of candor in his blog instead of the usual decanal platitudes.

(Decanal is a cool adjective by the way--it means "of or pertaining to a dean or deanery." What's a deanery, you might ask? A deanery is the "official residence of a dean." Usually, this term is use for a clerical dean, like the dean of a cathedral, but I know at least one college that uses the term to refer to its dean's official residence. Others use the term deanery to refer to the office of the dean. But I degress.)

This time he weighs in on Tulane's decision to eliminate whole departments in order to have a greater chance to preserve excellence in the remainder of the university.

His reflections on the implications for other colleges are interesting food for thought.
