Is there any chance of decisions coming out soon? Any feedback would be appreciated.

on or around april 1...

Receiving a letter in February is a sure-bet indicator that your son/daughter will get in. Not receiving a letter doesn't necessarily mean he/she won't be accepted, but it probably does mean that your son/daughter is not one of the strongest applicants.

When you talk about "strongest applicant", it's all relative.

Dean J's gonna not be happy with you bringing likely letters up! Approximately less than 1% of students receive those letters, and not getting one doesn't mean anything, other than you're possibly a part of a HUGE majority of admitted students who will have to wait until April 1st for decisions (unless they do the 5pm on March 31st again this year).

2007mom: check Dean J's online blog. She wrote on this. Bookmark that blog, she'll add any and all news on there before anywhere else. Also, use the search feature or go back to March/April of 2007 to get an idea of the time line. Remember, more students applied to UVA this year than any other year. AND they're all regular decision. They're going to spend every minute they can reviewing applications, plus stuffing/sealing/double checking.

I agree with Shoebox! UVA is the kind of school that if they say 5pm on March 31st, that is what they mean and not a minute earlier. Dean J will elaborate on specifics on her blog as the date draws closer. I remember last year trying to check admissions two minutes before the release time>>no dice. Then two minutes later, the screen had changed a lot. There was a royal blue color and new lettering that had my name, then something like "status": "offered admission"
Below was conservatively typed something like: Congratulations on your admissions to UVA...........
Good luck everyone!!! Hang in there!!

so we CAN check online then?

Last year, that was true. I think that should be true too this year, not sure obviously. Follow Dean J's blog. She's great at leading applicants through the process.
I'm betting that yes you will be able to check on-line, just as it was last year. I think UVA is trying to become more electronic, so I don't predict that they would go to snail mail at this point.

If you applied online, you can check online...that's how it was last year, I assume its true this year.

If you're accepted into the Echols or Rodman program, you'll probably get an email a couple weeks early inviting you to Echols Day on the Lawn.

shoebox, Dean J wouldn't not be happy. She's just tired of telling everyone about it.

If you applied snail mail last year, you had to wait for USPS to deliver your decision. It seemed forever for daugher to get her letter. "ADMITTED" Not sure if the same applies this year.

I haven't heard anything new about our mail date. We are still in the thick of things.

I can tell you that the time will probably be 6:30 PM Eastern, which was the time I posted the decisions last year. As always, when I know the date, I'll post it on my blog.

The last few weeks of app review have resulted in another small bunch of those "likely letters". We sent them to mail services yesterday to be stamped and they will probably make it into the US Postal Service system today.

Thanks for the update. b will be standing at the box hoping and praying and hoping and praying....singing a song! or is it wishing and hoping or? sorry a bit slap happy.

Once again, do not expect one of those letters. Doing so is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Sorry Dean J. I did not mean to put you on the spot.

^^I believe Dean was responding to Carnut's post, not this thread in particular.

International students (and US citizens abroad) might receive decisions online/by post earlier than students in the US.

If I have not recieved an invitation for one of those days, does that mean I for sure won't be a rodman scholar? I recieved two likely letters, one from the office of admissions and one from the school of engineering, and I am impatiently awaiting the decision on scholars...

I don't recall Dean J saying anything about early online notification and/or mailing for International students. I think she has commented before about communications taking longer for this category of applicants, but my understanding from reading her Blog was that ALL decisions will be mailed and posted at the same time. I could be wrong about this however.

Ace, would you be kind enough to share where you read/heard about possible early notification for International students? Thanks.
