So who's going to the DEAN Scholar's Weekend?

I am! Going in on the Amtrack, woot woot.

I’ll be there! I’m so excited to see what they have planned.

Yeah I’m excited too! Have you guys received your itineraries yet? My flight doesn’t come in until 10pm on Saturday :(

10 PM on saturday? The itinerary says events start Saturday afternoon- it’s mostly entertainment, though. BTW, what region do you represent? I am from the midwest.

What kind of things am I missing? I was pretty bummed about the flight. I’m coming from Alaska haha. It’ll be a good talking point.

sooooooo much fun!

Just got home from it! Hm… I probably met most or all of you there this weekend… :)

wth is this?

They picked 70 out of the 21000 who applied to CAS as a Dean Scholar. According to the letter, it stands for Diversity in Experience and Academics, and for “outstanding academics” and being a “changing agent” in your community. (I think they spilled coffee on my transcript haha) You’re part of the Honors Program and get a scholarship. They flew us out there last weekend and it was a veddy nice time.

damn i would think salutatorian at competitive high school would be good enough for this!

it was so much fun. ahh are you guys going to NYU? IT was hard for me, but I think I’m choosing Penn.

I’m choosing Dartmouth I think… Its really hard to pass up, but I think I’m going to get more of what I need at Dartmouth.

Did you get this invitation before, after, or with your acceptance at NYU?

(I ask because I think my D’s stats would put her very “on the cusp” of what I’ve seen regarding this honor…and I’d hate for her to get an acceptance and say “Nope, you have to go to your free in-state”, THEN find out this notification came later!)

For those considering the scholars program- I’m sure they filled you in on the perks this weekend, but I just wanted to say how much I LOVED the trips they send us on. Freshman year, Italy; Sophomore year, we got to choose and I chose Paris. It’s a cool deal.

Is the D.E.A.N even still being offered? I have only heard of $25,000 max (now nudged up to as much as $32,000 due to increase in COA). And that was Presidential. But D.E.A.N. is not even listed on the website. I just read a November 9 notice that NYU was going to have to cut back on merit aid. Nooooooooo! Why does this keep happening? I just don’t even get it. My D’s instate university is of course courting their high performing kids to “keep 'em down on the farm”. But…NYU beckons, yet we can’t afford it! Seems to me like the people I saw invited to be D.E.A.N.'s scholars were both URMs and lower income. Anyone have any input on that? And…whether or not it’s MORE than Presidential scholarships? I know it’s hard to say since they combine need/merit?
