Dean's Honor Scholorsip

As a junior looking into possibly attending Tulane, I was looking over the Dean's Honor Scholarship application. For both those who applied and those who actually got the scholarship, what are some examples of "projects" as required in the application? I have no idea what they are looking for. Thanks!

This topic has been covered a time or two, so check old posts for background. Basically the subject is wide open. A small box is provided, but you might be more successful thinking "outside the box." For example, one poster described his brother's winning project being an original handwritten poem inside the box surrounded by several original handwritten poems outside the box each of which related to the "inside the box" poem in a different way. I'm sure you can envision analogous presentations in music, medicine, engineering, etc. Of course this is just one example. The one absolute caveat for success is BE BOLD!!! (Or as my coach used to say "Faint heart never won fair lady.")

PS, If your interest in Tulane is serious, I can highly recommend applying EA (November 1) and then submitting a DHS application (December 15).

thanks for responding

I did a search in old links and found nothing about the project aspect of the Dean' Honors Scholarship. Would someone please elaborate? Is the project a separate paper like a science fair or a senior thesis? Or is it simply whatever creative idea you can come up with revolving around the box on the paper? Still confused.

You can do any thing you want to with it. Basically, be creative. It doesn't have to be something that takes a lot of work to do, but I would think that the amount of effort you put into it is considered. I think it also helps to have a purpose to it as well, like make it tell something about yourself or about something that is important to you.

Thank-you. Can you tell me if their box idea changes each year or can we expect a surprise for the 2006 entering class?

Lukester - Yeah you're right, the CC search function doesn't find the threads I recalled. BUT if you do the search in Google the CC threads will appear. I got <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=6502%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=6502</a> and <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=15331%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=15331</a> with Google Search TULANE DHS "THE BOX"

Also I used the CC Message Search in the "Classic Discussion" section and came up with the following item (sorry, old threads don't have 'showthread' numbers):

box:
mathematical design going inward with tulane crest centered

Good Luck with your applications!
