Here's a general question:

Does Dean's list go by semester or is it cumulative? For example at son's school - Dean's list is 3.5 but with no grade below a C- - Let's say a kid failed a class 1st semester - GPA would obviously not be a 3.5, but second semester's GPA was 3.5 (all B+'s and A-'s). Would that F follow him/her the whole way through college with respect to the Dean's list and would Dean's list be on the cumlative average between 1st and 2nd semester?

I know in high school it is strictly by semester or term so I was assuming it would be this way in college, but something I read on son's university website made me think twice so I was wondering how other schools worked.

thanks in advance.

I think it depends on the college. At my first college it was by semester. Here we don’t have a deans list at all.

I agree, it likely depends on the school, though I haven’t heard of a cumulative dean’s list.

At the state college I’ve been dual enrolled in for the past couple years, the Dean’s List is by semester. It requires at least 12 credit hours with a 3.5 GPA. President’s List is 15 credit hours with a 4.0 GPA, though I haven’t heard of that at other schools.

Same at my kids’ school.

At my school it is by semester. It also depends on which college you are in within the university. For my particular college (engineering), it is a 3.75 or above; not sure about others…I think you need 36 units (slightly different system, we don’t do “credits”), or whatever the minimum is to be a full time student.
