Dean's Scholar Interview

D has been invited to a scholarship invitational on the 22nd - which includes scholarship interviews with faculty. Any pointers from current/recent Dean's Scholars on what to expect during this event would be appreciated. Thanks.

My son attended last year. Very nice day with tours and special classes. Son enjoyed his “interviews” immensely.

its a 15 minute interview with one of the staff. Probably Stanton, Cline, or Laude

I got 1/4 tuition scholarship from it.
There are also 1/2 and full rides given out too.

is there any other way to get a deans scholars scholarship offer other than going to this event?

When did you apply and when did you hear in the mail you were accepted? Are you top 10% in state? Have you heard of many others being notified yet? Is this a rolling notification like Plan II?

this is interesting. i talked to an admissions counselor who visited my school today. I asked her when to expect letters from dean’s scholar and she told me late feb/early march

Erisamom, did you attend the scholarship invitational as well last year? The letter says “Parents/family members are welcome and encouraged to attend.” Is it worthwhile for a parent to go?

To answer foolforitaly… D2 received her Dean’s Scholars acceptance around Dec 8. She applied in mid-October, but her teacher didn’t submit her rec until around Thanksgiving. She received the scholarship invitational right before Christmas.

Yes, I did go with my son. There were a good number of parents there. I’m glad it went as the event gave me a feeling that the DS program would mean you weren’t just one of a large number of students at UT. There was at least one presentation for parents (during the interviews as I remember) and alll the other activities were very open so you will feel welcomed (rather than odd) if you go.

oops…“I’m glad I went”

Wow, does it take long for you to hear from Dean’s Scholars???

I turned mine in right before the Dec 1 deadline. So, if Austinhills’ kid applied in October and got accepted in December…does that mean that I should hear from them in February (2 months later)?

It honestly feels like forever and I want to know already so I know that I can live in honors dorm! sigh

19mb81, how did your kid get a letter so soon? When exactly is the “22nd”? Isn’t that already past? Is the interview date different for everyone?

Sorry, I sound like I’m freaking out 'cause I kinda am…

The invitational did just pass… but it was for scholarship interviews, not for acceptance. People there were already accepted, but there were not too many people there so I’m sure that they haven’t made all of their decisions yet

Well if it’s for scholarships, why didn’t I get invited? I turned everything in before the Dec. 1st scholarship consideration deadline! What the heck…
