i just got an email from NYU telling me i am one of 80 Dean's Scholars, which gives me $25,000 dollars a year. it said that "students who visit NYU march 31st-april 2nd (they're paying for everything) will recieve the award. the problem is that is right in the middle of my spring break and i will be on vacation then. honestly, if they only give me that $25,000, i will not be able to attend because it's way too expensive for my family. so if i don't attend, does that mean i won't recieve the scholarship. also, is there any chance that they might give more money, like needbased, since my EFC was $8000? so what do u think i shud do? cut my spring break vacation short and go or just not go since that's probably all the money i will be getting?

is that 25k a year? or 25k for 4 years? The Dean scholar award is a certificate award you'll be gettting. As far as 25k goes, they deduct the tuition fees from your award, and the left over is paid by fin aid, loans, and other scholarships.

oh crap, yea i think it's 25k over four years, which makes it even worse :(. yea it was an email. they said they sent me a letter, but i havent recieved it yet.

wow! I'm just trying to even be accepeted, and you got their most prestigious scholarship.
You should be very proud of yourself.
Congratulations!

The 25k a year is renewable, meaning you could renew it each year. Also it should be stackable along with your financial need grants, so you would be able to get a free ride at NYU without any loans. If it's not stackable, then the scholarship is just bogus offered to anyone who needs financial aid with good stats. I'd definately call NYU just to make sure.

armani, that's every year. It's the scholarship which I got. As long as you maintain a good gpa, it's renewable. And that's only the merit part of your f/a package. If you have demonstrated need through the FAFSA process, you'll get need-based aid as well. Congratulations! This means you're one of the top applicants and they want you to come to NYU. I'm not sure what you mean in your first post about not getting the money if you don't come to NYU. Of course, you won't get it if you don't come! It's an NYU scholarship.

If you really want to go to NYU, I'd recommend you attend that weekend.

thanks for all your praise guys, that means a lot to me.

maath,
i meant if i dont attend that weekend, will i still get the scholarship? i really hope i still will, because i'll be in mexico then, and i don't wanna leave early lol.

my stats for all interested:
African-American male
2110 SAT, 31 ACT, IIs: 790, 750, 660
4.25 GPA, 3.9 UW
9 APs
Pre-med emphasis
ECs: tutoring 20 hours a week, volunteering in a hospital overseas every summer, model UN, JSA, etc. really good recs and essay

Well, that makes me feel a lot better. i really need a full-ride to attend NYU cuz thats the only way my parents would let me go. NYU does not meet full un-met need right?

damn, that's some good accomplishment you got right there. i wish i were u. all i want is just to be accepted. are you an ed applicant or rd? (im thinking you're obviously rd b/c you would be binded to go there if you were ed).

I Got the same letter and the same, 25K scholarship
My stats are almost same SAT 2120, SAT IIs MathIIc, Bio, Chem. perfect 800. 5AP's all 5, good EC etc. This scholarship has changed my mind. Now NYU looks like my Number 1 choice if I can't get into any combined med program.

Is this Dean's scholarship university wide or in a specific school? My stats are similar, but I applied to Tisch. I don't know if this makes a difference. I haven't received anything. Is it also only for ED students? :(

Are you an under-represented minority? ;) Your racial/ethnicity are paired up with your GPA/SAT score for the award. So if you're white or asian, you would need much greater stats to receive the scholarship.

whoa! scrapnel, do you mean that applicants to other schools such as tisch or stern don't even have a shot at the $25k scholarships? if so, do you know what is the upper limit for those applicants' scholarships?
