Dean's Scholars

What is the difference between:
[A] dean's scholar
** presidential reseach scholar
[C] cornell committment?

Did you guys get a likely letter AS WELL??? oh, and what were ur stats?

I got it today. It was a nice surprise. So, mine said I was nominated for the Dean's Scholar.....when do we find out if we got it or not? COngrats to all who got one!

It seems very few people got this letter, so I would say that if you got it, your chances are very good--maybe even 100% certain. Why would they drive away their best applicants with:

"Congratulations! You've been nominated as a Dean's Scholar!"

and then:

"Sorry, sucker. No Dean's Scholar for you. Uh, come to Cornell anyway? Thanks."

Just doesn't make a lot of sense, intuitively speaking.

For those who asked if people who got this letter ALSO got a likely, this letter IS a likely. Towards the bottom is says something like "though we don't send official notification until April, it may help your planning to know that we are very interested in you. It is quite extraordinary for us to send out these letters..." etc.

Sounds pretty likely.

Ok lets clear a few things up.

If you got a Deans Scholar letter then you are in. No questions asked.

The Deans Scholars are awards that are given by some (not all) of the colleges and are merit based. The awards are small in number and are an honor if you are chosen. Their intent is to attract talented students to Cornell.

The Presidential Research Scholars (along with the Meining Family Cornell National Scholars and the Cornell Tradition Fellowships) are part of the Cornell Commitment Program. We have been over this a bunch here. For more info see www.commitment.cornell.edu

Sorry, starmel18, does Cornell AAP give Dean Scholar awards?

So, that's nice to know we're most likely in. Are you all going to go to Cornell?

Is the pres scholars awarded to eng students only after they decide to come to cornell or have people already received them?

Anyone from any school can be a presidential research scholar (my roomate is one and she is pre-vet in CALS). Invitations go out in May and you can get one even if you have not decided to come to Cornell yet.

Thanks starmel18. Are you an AAP student?

She's in ILR

oh. I would have loved to ask how hard it was to get into AAP. And is it possible to get admission in two colleges simultaneously? Thanks!

I got a Dean's scholar letter too. Pretty cool stuff.

Unlike most universities, at Cornell you apply to a particular college not to the university as a whole. This means you can only apply to one college at a time.
