Dean's Scholarships?

Has anyone here received an acceptance letter without the invitation to interview for a Presidential, Trustee, Mork, or Stamps scholarship (meaning that you got a Dean's scholarship)?

I got the "no scholarship" email (sadly), but it only says that I am not being considered for Presidential, Trustee, Mork, and Stamps scholarships and does not mention Dean's. I'm just a little confused if there's still a chance that people like me can be offered Dean's scholarships.

I’m also a little confused by all this. I received my acceptance package, but there was no mention of a scholarship invitation. But I also have not received the email that I’m not being considered for scholarships either. It might be coming later. But does this mean I’m only getting the Dean’s?

Based on previous CC posts, you should receive the Dean’s offer in about a week. But it seems like USC mixed things up this year so you shouldn’t hold me to that. What state are you from, and when did you get the package?

son got accepted as well (to Marshall). Big packet in the mail, but no information about scholarship. He did NOT receive the email that he was not being considered for a scholarship, so a little unclear about this as well.

What does your (and your son’s) USConnect status say?

there is just a copy of the admission letter that he received in the mail today

Darn, I don’t have that on mine. Well, no scholarships for me then.

My USConnect has no mention of “ExploreUSC” or anything like that, but it did have the PDF of my acceptance. I have not yet received anything in the mail, but I live in Hawaii, and I think i’ll get it today. Unfortunately, I think this means I will be getting the Dean’s scholarship, in which case I won’t be able to attend.

Has anyone on here received Pres/Trust and NOT yet see the “Explore” thingy on his/her USConnect? Thanks.

I figure I’ll post this one more time, then give up.

Every year there are early acceptances without invitations to interview for the P or T scholarship. In the past, those students have received the Deans scholarship (via letter a week or so later).

There, done. Now someone else please take over answering this question! :)

Explore USC is only for Presidential, Trustee, Mork, and Stamps scholarship recipients.

^Well, not literally true. There are later Explore days for admitted students who are not scholarships. They are shorter (one day) and the RSVP tab will appear later after the regular acceptances, but they are called “Explore USC.”

Oh, I thought those were “Meet USC” days, sorry, my bad.

Well, that bites. I’m a soon-to-be NMF so I could get the Presidential, but that’s most likely not enough for me to attend, even with financial aid. A Trustee was basically my only means of making it work, so I was at least hoping for a Presidential invite so I could bump it up. Looks like USC is a lost cause for me :/

Actually the options for non-scholarship admitted students will be (or have been in the past) “Explore USC,” which is a full day (as opposed to the weekend for scholarship interview candidates), and “Preview USC,” which is a half day. “Meet USC” is for applicants, earlier in the process. I highly recommend the full day (which my son did).

I know that feel #sadboyparty

@Mathemusician - your case seems to be similar to son’s. He really wants to be at USC but comparing to Illionois 27K scholarship and another full scholarship option he may have to give up on USC dream now. I am glad atleast he has options…

I’ll most likely end up at my local state university. The NMF scholarship there is a flat $15,000 per year, $6,000 more than in-state tuition. I have options too, so I’m not TOO disappointed…but it would be really nice to have the opportunity to go to USC and not dig a financial grave in the process.

In case anyone wants to know about the Deans Scholarship. Today, my daughter received a letter stating that she received a USC Deans Scholarship, which equals a quarter tuition per year for eight semesters. We found out she was admitted about a week ago but there was no mention of scholarships. As some of you stated earlier in this thread, she received a scholarship exactly a week later. Hoorayyyy!!!

Congrats MOM…more to come for others too!

Keep in mind the opportunity to apply for local scholarships as a way to add more funds for college expenses.

Most students at SC receive financial aid. Run the calculator and check to see if your family can qualify. Even if a student receives a Presidential Scholarship or smaller it is still possible to apply for financial aid in addition to the scholarship. If SC is a dream school run the calculator and check alamemom’s posts. Receiving a smaller scholarship does not disqualify a student from receiving financial aid in addition to the scholarship---------IF all FA forms are completed by the deadlines and SC determines there is need.

As it states on the freshmen profile many students at SC receive both a merit scholarship…AND receive financial aid.
