Was it easy (mentally) to transfer out from say your hometown college to out of town and make friends? What do you need to expect and prepare for?
yes and no. disclaimer I am only a first year, but an out of stater I went from being a semi-popular kid in high school to knowing 0 kids 3 states away. At my school there are no programs (for freshmen or transfers) to meet people, and I wasn’t in freshmen classes, so to put it bluntly you have to want friends. Join a club specific to your major and meet kids there (your department may have information on this), Clubs for random interests or things your curious about, and if all else fails just strike up a conversation with kids in your class before the lecture and ask them for a study group. with that being said you can never do this if you mope around all day, so don’t do that just keep telling yourself “there’s a reason why I came here” “I like it here” etc. college kids are very nice, and are always open to including another in their friend groups (most of my friends are upperclassmen), and if you still get homesick just remember that everyone feels that and it will go away just stay positive
