I couldn't find a thread on any well-run speech and debate camps, oddly enough. Any recommendations for a debate camp that is helpfup in improving overall skills in Forensics?

Depends, what debate event are you interested in improving in? The events are vastly different. I debate Lincoln Douglas, so if you are interested in that, I can name some very good camps for that.

Lol sorry, I should’ve thought to mention that.

My IE is Extemporaneous Speaking and while it would be great to improve my Extemp. skills, I’m far weaker in debate. I’m a Novice and up until now I competed in Lincoln-Douglass debate, but I’ve decided to try Public Forum Debate at the urging of my friend, who’s now my debate partner.

So…I guess PuF or Extemp camps are what I’m looking for. Then again, I don’t yet know if I’ll be switching back to LD at some point if PuF doesn’t work out. Any camps that teach one of the former three I would gladly consider.

All right, LD camps to check out. Please note debate camps for LD tend to cater to national circuit debate, so if your school doesn’t really plan on traveling to the circuit tournaments or if you’re going to be remaining mostly regional/local and will thus be mostly lay/traditional debating, this would probably be a waste of money.

VBI: [Victory Briefs Institute Victory Briefs](http://victorybriefs.com/?page_id=22)
I attended this one, it’s an LD camp, had a fantastic experience. Instructors are all amazing ex-debaters TOC champions and whatnot and it’s really great for improving debate skills as well as learning a bunch of other fun stuff. Plus lots of fun socializing. It’s great for all levels.

NSD: [National Symposium for Debate](http://nsdebate.org/wordpress/)
Couple debate friends attended this, also an LD camp, very nice from what I hear, although the rumors are that it’s pretty intense.

I’ve heard some people mention the Stanford camp around here, but I’m not sure about it; none of my friends have attended. Do some Googling, I suppose.

NDF: [National Debate Forum](http://www.nationaldebateforum.com/)
This one has camps for all the events, congress, PF, and LD. I had one friend attend for LD, and said she learned a good deal.

FFI: [Florida Forensic Institute](http://www.ffi4n6.com/)
I live in Florida, so this is a big camp for extemp and Congress here.

Any IE event - go to FFI (ffi4n6.com)!

I’m an Extemper, and I’ve attended FFI for 2 years now. If you want to do Extemp, this is the place to go. Coaches include Chris McDonald of Eagan (most national champions in Extemp of any coach in NFL history), Alex Stephenson (2007 National Champion in USX), Charlie Metzger (2008 Runner-up in USX), and last year Ryan Pereira (2nd Place Glenbrooks 2008, national finalist at other tournaments as well). I will be attending FFI again this year if I don’t get into Telluride. It’s propelled me to the final stage at many national tournaments (Yale, Blue Key, Glenbrooks) this year, and it got me an invite to MBAs.

VBI (Victory Briefs Institute) has had (alleged) problems with inappropriate relationships between students and staff. Obviously, it won’t be a problem for the vast majority of students who go, but I felt like this needed to be mentioned.

In a recent discussion on victorybriefsdaily.com , an anonymous person reposted something written by a girl (a very successful debater on the national circuit) who went there. The post essentially accuses a staff member ten years older than her of manipulating her and having inappropriate sexual relations with her. Many of the other staff members were aware, but didn’t do anything to resolve the problem.

Although the tumblr has been taken down, the google cache of her post is here:
[13 reasons why | Tumblr](http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:rBUGMKlyQMkJ:www.■■■■■■■■■■/tagged/13%2Breasons%2Bwhy)

Even if this student isn’t completely blameless, Victory Briefs Institute should have immediately acted on this matter. They didn’t.
