How much weight is given on the college application process if you are the national champion in debate (Lincoln-Douglas)?

by national champion you mean TOC, CFL, or NFL? It will be given substantial weight, but not as much as policy ;)

Wet had someone from our school be a national champion at a speech event, but he got rejected from all ivys and had a good SAT and gpa do I’m beginning to doubt the impact of debate on college admissions :/

The national NFL champion for lincoln-douglas came from my school last year. He’s at Pomona now.

Conflicting answers…

LD>Policy btw

And to Schlaag… Someone loves norm a bit too much.

Debate is just another extracurricular. So if you do well in it, then great. In some ways, it’s akin to being a national winner at chess or science. Many admissions officers say they look at extracurricular activities equally. The head of the prom committee is no less important than being a research assistant at a university to them. Therefore, an accomplishment such as this in debate should help the committee see how you will contribute to student life at the college. However, be forewarned, it does not guarantee acceptance.
