Hello,
So I'm choosing between Harvard and Yale right now, and since I enjoy debate, I'm just curious about their debate teams. How is Harvard's team, and how does it differ from Yale's? A few people told me that Yale's team is really cliquish and doesn't interact with other people, so I'm just curious to see how people feel about Harvard's...
Thanks!

I stand in awe of the Yale debate team. Second to none, except possibly Oxford. (Based on international tournament results). If I were you though, I’d go to Harvard. Yale seems so depressing.

There are times, particularly in winter, when anyplace in New England can seem damp and dismal, but both Harvard and Yale are very lively and exciting places to go to school.

Yale, like Princeton, does parliamentary debate. Harvard, along with Dartmouth and Cornell, has policy debate. Do you have a preference?

Harvard also has parli debate, and is probably the more accessible form of debate. Harvard policy is among the best in the country and would require lots of time - it’s also much smaller than the parli team.

I’ve heard GREAT things about the parli debate group at Harvard :)

Really? Because I watched the WUDC (Worlds) - Which the University of Sydney won in Dec 2009, and Harvard was much better than Yale (who didn’t get into the finals). The most successful 2 teams in the world according to Worlds results would be Oxford (won 4 times) and University of Sydney (also won 4 times).

Anyway, I’m also very interested in debate at Harvard/Yale - what competitions does Harvard participate in? How large is their team/s (as in overall body of debaters). And what is the audition process?
