So I have just been Debating for two years but my two coaches tell me that I have quite a bit of potential and will be representing our team in competitions. We will be competing all over the nation later in the year, and I was wondering, how much would it help me if I won multiple awards in Debate. As my coach told me, schools, boarding or colleges, love to see applicants who have passion and talent in Debate. So, to what extent is this true? Thanks!

Bump…

if you would have awards in debate, that would be great. Cause as you said, BCs love applicants who have passion in debate, the same with MUN

Personally, I think my debate success went a long way towards my admittance to most major boarding schools (Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, etc.) So any awards or experience you’ve had should certainly bolster your application.

@Exeterrr,
Getting awards in Debate is obviously going to help your application. I think it depends on the level of the awards (state wide, national, international, etc) and how many awards you have. But, don’t fall into the trap of believing that having awards will automatically make you a desirable applicant. An applicant who only has a laundry list of clubs and awards is as human to admission officers as a Vampire Werewolf Nazi Zombie. Good luck though, and I hope you enjoy your debate competitions.
