So, I'm a Freshman taking Algebra 2/Trig and I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with my math courses throughout the rest of my high school career. I got mostly B's with a couple of A-'s in Algebra 1 and Geometry. The way it works at my school is there is Pre-calculus and Honors pre-calculus. I'm not yet sure which I will want to take because the Honors Pre-calc teacher is better from what I've heard but the class will be harder and I'm not sure I can get a decent grade in it. Then after that I can either take AP Calculus (AB) (BC) or Statistics. Calc (AB) is an actual class but (BC) is an independent study class where you just show up to do the final and AP Test. Statistics is an actual class. If I choose to take Calc should I take (AB) then BC so I have a better Idea of Calculus when I have to basically teach myself (BC) or should I go (AB) or Statistics. And should I take Honors Pre-calc or Regular Pre-calc as a sophomore?

I would say regular pre-calc sophomore year. This stuff’s hard and i’m a senior.

(Then again, i’m not the stereotypical CC’er).

From there, i’d take AP Calc AB, then honestly it could go other way. I think AB and BC combined is kind of overkill, but BC would be better than both of them in the interest of time. Stats gives you a little bit of variety, though.

Do you like math? Are you interested in going above AP Calc BC?
Your school might have a dual enrollment program where you can take Calc III or Linear Algebra at a local community college.

You could do
Algebra II/Trig - Honors Pre-Calc - AP Calc BC - AP Stats or college course

I’m pretty sure they teach the AB stuff in Calc BC. Or you could take AP Calc AB, study the BC part on your own, and take the BC exam.
I’d recommend honors pre-calc. If you’re good enough at math to take Algebra II as a freshman (and understand it, hopefully), you’ll probably do well.

I would take Honors pre-calc next year. I took Algebra II Honors my freshman year and advanced pre-calc (AICE Math) last year. My AP Calc AB teacher told us the first day of class that those of us who had taken AICE Math definitely have the advantage. That being said, I think Honors would give you a better pre-req for Calc and if the teacher is better in Honors than in Regular, why not give it a shot? As for senior year, see how AB goes before deciding BC. I heard Calc is easy after the initial transition (I don’t like limits…), but my school also doesn’t require any independent study.

My town is so small it doesn’t even have a community college, the closest one is like 40 minutes away. The Honors Pre-calc teacher also teaches Calc (AB). I don’t think I would want to take BC right after Pre-calc because It’s an independent study and I want to at least have the stuff taught in AB mastered before I take on BC as an independent study or go to Statistics after (AB) which I’m still undecided on. What college majors prefer Stats over Calc or vice versa?

I recommend honors pre-calc, I am taking it now and it is great. Also the quality of the teacher makes all the difference for math so go for the class with the better teacher. Don’t worry about your junior year math yet, see how you do this year and next…
