Okay. I took the SAT twice, and studied pretty hard before each test. My scores (combined) were 730 for Critical Reading, 750 for Writing, and 620 for Math. I honestly don't see myself doing much better than this, since I just don't know what else I can do to prepare, especially for the Math section. So I'm thinking about taking the ACT, which I don't know much about. As a person who generally doesn't take standardized tests well, should I take it? Do you think I would do better on it?

Thanks! :]

For your first question - yes.

Second question - I have no idea. Personally, your weakness seems like math, and the ACT math is harder than the SAT math. It tests more advanced material, so I don't think your score will actually go up in the math section. You're doing well on the other SAT sections, and I think you should try again, and focus on studying more on math this time. If, after the third time you take it, your math score still isn't stellar, accept it or take the ACT (but learn more advanced math).

You should take the ACT, but keep in mind, as Optimization said, that ACT math is harder than SAT math. However, also keep in mind that the ACT, as whole, uses strict timing and straightforward wording, while the SAT uses easier timings and trickier wording. You have to ask yourself where your weakness lies in math. Is it actually the material that you don't understand, or it is the question based on the wording? After you've answered this question, if it's actually the material, then you may want to go through a list of topics that appear on the SAT and consolidate what topics give you trouble. If it's actually the wording, then no doubt, prepare for the ACT over the summer and take it in September or October. Even if it is the material, you can still study just for the ACT and take it instead of the SAT.

Hmm...alright then. I suppose I will give the ACT a go then, since my problems with math lie mostly in the wording of SAT problems. I think I'm done taking the SAT, and will focus on the ACT and the Subject Tests. Thanks a lot! :D
